An Example (And How it Can Get Out of Hand): Let’s say you’re on the back nine and down a bit but hitting it well. You decide to go blind lone wolf on a par 4 that fits your eye. The other three guys hit the fairway and green, two hit it within the flagstick and make birdie, and the other hits it in the bunker and gets up and down for par by making a putt from outside the flagstick. Meanwhile you miss the fairway, the other team hammers and you take. You end up hitting the green and making a solid two-putt par. Not bad! However, you just lost hole, hammer, take, Hogan, Hogan, wasabi, wasabi, Dottie Pepper, birdie, birdie, sandy, poley, KY, O.J. That’s 14 dots, and lets say their worth $3 apiece. Multiply that by four because you went blind lone. Despite making par, you now have to pay out $168 EACH to your three opponents.

I could barely understand regular Wolf. My one buddy who always wanted to play got so exasperated bc inevitably I'd 1- lose track of what was going on and 2 - get pissed that Wolf necessitates a particular teeing order that doesnt lead to ready golf.

Anybody see the stat for Rickie they had on Golf Central?

 

Chamblee said Rickie's scoring average is almost 2 strokes higher when he plays early vs when he plays late. Said it's clear he has the game to play well but the mental aspect is the last piece he is missing. I think he said Jordan is the opposite and is a stroke or so lower when he plays early.

 

I can't remember the specifics but I think that was the gist. Anyone else see it?

Say you found a ball that you absolutely loved. And let's say they were available at a discounted price since they were a previous generation. How many dozen is an excessive amount of balls to hoard?

Came in second at Greystone today @ (-13). Winner was three better than that. Huge props to City who fired out a hole by hole scramble strategy. I read it diligently prior to the round, cross referenced with overheads and the course tour, and tried my best to impart knowledge to my group during the round.

 

We had our own marker with us the entire round, and she was great. Rooting us on at every turn. Diligently marked the number of times each player hit a drive (3 per person minimum required).

 

Like every other time I've played in a scramble, it all comes down to putting. I flagged a few wedges, but essentially on every hole we had a 15-25 footer for birdie or eagle. Made our share, missed a few. Had to scramble for par twice, and did so successfully. I think if you eliminated everything but the putts, you'd have the same top 5.

 

Greystone was really in great shape, but the greens were so damn slow uphill. They rolled pure, but no one could make an uphill putt beyond 10 feet. Left 3 or 4 two rolls short. Annoying. Love to get out there and play my own ball. I can see how anything sub-80 from the Blues would be a great score.

 

Anyway, the tourney was for A Well Known Foundation. My team qualified for the Pebble Beach trip, got a nice Tiffany gift, etc. The trip is not 100% covered like I thought, only partially covered, huge bummer. For the amount they were charging for the foursome (don't ask, it's OBSCENE), you'd think they could sponsor the players and then some... but apparently I was misinformed/misled. Not sure what I'm gonna do to be perfectly honest. Courses are PB, Spanish Bay and Spyglass, with a hotel room right there on site.

 

I was sponsored into the foursome, so I'm already ahead, but it's still a lot of dough to go. Gotta talk to my teammates and reach a consensus. Entire gift bag looked to be donated, we had a 2pm start, food was meh, beer cart was ok. TBH, I have kinda a weird feeling about the whole thing right now. A wee bit pyramidschemeish.

 

Any advice from guys who have played PB/SB/SpyG? Worth it? I know DC and Stix have been out that way. I'm looking for strong reasons to go, or not. Trip would be in late January 2018.

Tough call. PB is PB, 6 or so really, really great holes and a bunch of sort-of-ok holes. All else considered, it might be worth it just for the walk down 6/7/8. Spyglass has 3-4 great holes, the rest could be on any course. Did not play SB. Do you really like the guys you are going with? If its a really fun group that you play with a lot it could be a fun trip depending on the price. My guess is that if they are banging you for a decent price, you could probably pay for 2-3 "other" golf trips for the same price? I dont know, saying it might not be worth it is easy for me to say having played there a couple times.

 

January is definitely hit or miss on the weather though.

If you like the guys you play with in the tourney then it is a no brainer.

 

Calculate the trip without having a % paid for... it would be one you would pass on..Im assuming.

I'd forgotten how much I hate watching Jason Day play golf. Can he just go away again.

 

All NBC has to do is cut away from him when he gets to his ball, show 3 or 4 shots from other golfers, and then cut back to him.
