MD/VA/DC Golfers - Ten Seconds or Less

I saw that sectional qualifying for the US Open is taking place at Woodmont Country Club on June 6th. Anyone interested in checking it out?

 

I've heard that is the best event to watch. I've always been interested. Maybe I'll actually do it this year and go there for a part of an afternoon.

I'm probably first one home, most of the guys were ordering food.

 

Kent and I never trailed in the 4-ball and won 3&1. I was feeling really good after posting a bird on #1, and was 5/5 fairways when hitting 4w which put a lot of pressure on the Red Team. In the alternate shot, we were 2 up with 2 to play and lost the last two for the half. Kinda backed into it but it's a tough format and those two holes are tough anyway.

 

I believe WRX leads 7.5- 4.5 going into singles tomorrow.

7.5 - 4.5 good guys. I don't have many details as I had to book out to get to a concert tonight. Domes and I won both matches with a really nice comeback after being 2 down after 4 in the alternate shot. Fun times.

Really good first day of my first experience in the capital cup.

 

Partnered with Fabb, and I think we did a pretty good job together. We halfed the front nine of best ball and won the back nine of alternate shot 9 4&2.

 

On the front nine I got three strokes and feel like I took pretty good advantage with two birdies and one net par.

 

On the back we just got into a really good groove of putting the ball on the green in regulation and making our pars.

 

Highlight of my day was after our match, on 17 I holed my second shot from 115 for Eagle. Probably has been over 10 years since I've done that.

frustrating time on the course today. Went down early on 1, which set the tone for the day. Lost the front by 3 to Domes and Hoops. Back 9 alt shot was good, got hammered by rain for 5 holes, was up 2 with 4 to play, lost by 1 on 18. Guess no one wanted to write their name down on #8..should never win CTP with that distance. rough day, didn't strike it all that bad, but couldn't feel the greens out at all. Great time afterwards...reuben anyone? sorry again Fabbs.

Now that I got that off my chest.

 

DT carried the team for the most part all day. I was suppose to get us in the fairway and he would bomb after that.

 

Well that plan didn't work out too much. I couldn't find the bottom of my swing on chips, putts, everything. Felt bad because we played good and brought it to even from 2 down on the front but they stroke and we didn't...bad guys. I donated B2B birdies but that's about it.

 

On the back same story, some bad shots/putts that could of made the match have a different outcome but what ifs will get you no where.

 

We were down 1 going into 18. DT hits a beauty drive. I believe we have 250 to the front. Side hill 3 wood lie and I said I have it..hit it about 140 maybe. DT had 97 pin and just left it short, I attempted to chip in that just ran by the hole. The bad guys sent their birdie putt 5-7 feet by and they made the tough little par back. Push...So bad guys won again.

 

 

0-2 leaves a sour taste in your mouth like a stolen Reuben.

 

DT played very consistent and I let him down. Hard to stay positive when you hit a 3 wood twice on 2 pars 5 and it goes a total of 150 (combined).

 

However, tomorrow is another day. The food is outstanding at the grill and I had two beers..watch out for tomorrow.

TEX and I gave 4 strokes to the bad guys on the 4 ball. We were 2 down on 6, won the next two and were AS going into 9. All 4 players made bogey with Tex and I both hitting stupid tee balls, but they had a stroke. Lost the front.

 

Bad guys got 1 stroke on the back and that was the difference. 2 down again through 7. Won 8. Had a reasonable chance to win 9, but dude drained a 5-6 footer for par to halve the hole and win one up again. Appreciate Domes and Hoop for washing our match by winning theirs. WRX is up after day one and we will be at the end of the day tomorrow!

 

I hit the ball rather well. Tex didn't have his usual game (he will probably say it in a more derogatory way) he already said it in a more derogatory way. Regardless, we were in both matches, but it is difficult giving 5 strokes to a team who did not make worse than bogey the entire day.

 

I thoroughly enjoyed my day and competitors. Minus the over exaggerated whining from them about the rain, it was a great day.

 

Edit* I will add: I played to my actual course handicap on the front. Tex played to his or one better.

I left dagoose in almost every bunker on the back during alternate shot. Just lost it after the rain stopped, go figure. Dagoose drained a BOMB on 8 from about 40 feet to get us over the hump on the front. We split 1 and 1 against the Benedict Arnolds of WRX (Stix and Boogs). Close match, wish the weather was as enjoyable as the company.

 

I never knew Eagle was an older white guy, that was a surprise. I pictured him being from one of those Asia countries.

Chalk me up as one that liked the rain. Having the right gear really helped, we were "caddying" for each other with our umbrellas during the alternate shot. Made CPO a lot more bearable.

 

General vibe seems to be that the rough is...well, rough. Tough pitching out of that stuff in most areas. Greens are rolling just fine, I felt like I had a good day on the greens despite missing a 6-7 footer to win the match on 18. My 4-putt on 5 was just one of those you have to eat. Long first putt, blew the comebacker by and didn't take enough time on the third one. So much for flirting with an even par front!

Played South Wales today. Ended up behind a threesome which I caught in about three minutes after teeing off. They ask me to join since there's a foursome in front of them (somewhere). Big mistake. Nice guys but they S Bs and play a little too casual. By the fifth hole, we got a group behind us and by the seventh, it's three...and they can't really speed up because one of the guys can't keep a ball in play to save his life. The other two are better but not by a ton. Front nine: 2.5 hours. As we come up on the turn, they head for the clubhouse, I see my chance, say 'so long' and head straight for the 10th. I play 10, 11, 12 and when I'm on the 13th green I see them...just finishing 10. Second nine: 1 hour. Caught the group in front of us on the 18th fairway. I don't mind having a casual round but it was more like a Sunday walk along the ocean.

 

Johnny T and I played here last weekend. Some good holes but also a few crazy ones, like they needed a hole so they bent it around a hill or a double dog leg, two creeks and a forced layup on the same hole. Lost a couple of strokes to tall grass in the fairways and the banged up greens (and my aim or poor club selection) but had zero 3 jacks or trip bogeys. Fairways still muddy and some greens a little spongy but it was a day of sun and golf. Not sure if I'll play tomorrow but Dominion Valley is up on Monday.

Had the lefts all day off the tee. Hard to play from there. Rough was ROUGH. 6 birdies in our group won/tied holes on the front, a back n forth 9. Fun day, excellent company before during and after the round. Well played by Fabb and JJ. Wore us out on the back, capped by JJ's eagle dunk on 17 (after the match was already over).

 

Looking forward to tomorrow, plenty of points still out there.

Tournament golf on both days of the weekend? Life is good. Love this event so much.
