Who's attending the Monte clinic this weekend? I remember Goose mentioning it, but anyone else? I'm supposedly attending, but still haven't seen any details so I'm not sure what time to show up.

Thought I'd pop in the old neighborhood and see who all might be coming this weekend.

 

Yes, I'll be here Saturday AM for a while, mostly trying to shooo the rain away for you guys. But as Monte said, we'll make it work one way or the other. And when the weather clears for Sunday it should be fantastic, and hopefully a good number of you guys are playing golf on Monday. The course is in very good shape right now.

Re: pressure

 

It's twofold, I still hit some squirrely shots and had a couple of old toppers out there. Frustration mounted at points.

 

But for whatever reason, there's one thing I have learned about myself over the tournaments I've played. I putt better under pressure. And I have no issues leaning on it to pull me through. That's really taken some pressure off of my lackluster iron play and spotty driving. My short game needs a bunch of practice though.

Footjoy. Don't go off brand...and make sure you get them wet. They don't work dry.

You can keep it simple here and just get a pair of footjoy rain gloves. I think I remember seeing 3 or 4 of us on Saturday with the same pair. They'll last you years. $20-$25 or something. Throw them in the bag and forget about them.

 

Also a good alternative for when it's cold.

I bought a Mizuno impermalite rain jacket that I got from budget a year or so ago for like $35-40. Works great. Wish I could find the pants for cheap.

I do take the Capitol Cup seriously. I want to win every time I'm on a golf course. This isn't any different. Do I get more amped up to do well in the Capitol Cup versus other competition? I don't think so.

 

RE: JJ's post - No. I'm not really out there feeling nerves in this particular event. Am I little jazzed on the first tee shot? Yeah, probably. I play a lot of match play just getting out for rounds with you guys, so it feels pretty normal at this point. I probably had a putt to win or tie a hole, or needed to put one in the fairway when my opponent just left the door open for me a week or two ago. It's less foreign to me at this point than regular old individual medal play. I'm feeling more nerves if I'm out there in a gross stroke play event, where I need to tally up a score at the end of the day. Nobody else to lean on, and a single bad hole has bigger ramifications.

 

Frustration is a different story. I've gotten pretty good over the years at dealing with things going south, but they went south of south on Sunday, and I lost my mind. Completely lost it. It was unreal. You've got to go back pre-kids to find a round where I lost my mind like that. Frederick City Am back in 2009 or 2010. I don't have (and didn't have then) the game to win the championship flight in that event, but I could definitely make a good showing. That year I hit 14 greens Saturday and shot 76. Then I hit 12 or 13 greens Sunday and went 36-44 for a smooth 80. I couldn't put my clubs in the car and leave fast enough. I didn't play but maybe one or two rounds until the next season.

 

Time and life changes charted the course for a renewed perspective and outlook about golf since then. I play my share of bad rounds, but am pretty good at being able to keep my cool. Not so on Sunday. Just shows there's always more mental hurdles to be conquered in golf - even ones you think you've already gotten past.

Rain Gear: I bought a full Zero Restriction suit a few years ago (maybe like 5). Goretex but it is vented I believe. Converts to short sleeves, pants fully zip on the sides. If it is warmer then I can pair the pants with a lighter UA water repellant pullover wind shirt (also with short sleeve conversion). I have a pair of the FJ rain gloves that I have had for about the same time. I keep them in the pockets of the rain jacket so I don't lose them. A year or so ago I added the Titleist "Korean Lady Special" waterproof bucket hat with the wide brim that has also been awesome in the elements.

 

Spend the money once so you will have quality for years.

you have really stepped up your mspaint/shopjob game! i've definitely noticed. as per your point about pics, here's the thing. take away amusing poses and you take away the fun that can happen afterwards. adding in shakeweights has no meaning unless it's in a candid shot.

Buy 100% legit rain gear. Do NOT go cheap. Whether you get it on sale or not is a different story. My stuff is foot joy. The same jacket as eagle, their rain pants, and their black rain gloves that a couple folks have recommended.
