texas star golf course is a euless city owned golf course that is an extremely challenging 7,000 yard par 71 layout. the course consists of tree lined fairways, elevation changes and numerous water hazards. the course leaves a lot of options for how to play each hole and will require every club in the bag with par 3's ranging from 147 yards (tips) uphill to 245 yards (tips). the par 4's range from 337 yards (tips) to 471 yards (tips) and the par 5's ranging from 516 yards (tips) to 539 yards (tips). don't let these yardages full you - some of these holes play longer than the yardage because of dog legs, elevation changes, dog legs and blind shots.

while the course can be challenging it is fair. while there are some tight holes, many of them are lined lateral hazard rather than o.b. which can help speed up play. while the course is more than fair i wouldn't recommend it to a beginer still learning the game. this isn't a course that you blade the ball tee to green.

the conditions of the course are typically excellent. the course is always lush and green through the spring and summer - always in pristine tradition. the course features bent grass greens that are always in great shape and very fast. the only complaint for the greens is that they can be so soft, and the people who play this course lack of fixing ball marks can mangle some of the greens - but many of the greens are difficult to reach so this is only a problem on a few holes. they do a great job maintaining the bunkers which is real nice. there have been some recent water problems on the course because of the tremendous rains that we have had over the last two months.

the course is very well marked with yardage markers and many of the holes have plaques on the tee box or fairway with crossing water hazards on the hole marked. the course does not have gps systems, but they do have very useful yardage books. the course also has an excellent practice facility with a large 3 tee driving range that typically has one tee marked for members only. there is also a huge practice green that has the same bent grass as the greens on the course and is every bit as challenging as the greens on the course. there is also an excellent pitching green with a bunker and numerous lies to practice many different shots from.

texas star is reasonably priced at $77 on the weekend (green fee, cart, range) and $55 during the week. the course has great cart service and the beverage carts typically make it by every few holes. if there is any complaint of this course is that it gets crowded and hosts a lot of tournaments.

i highly recommend this course to anyone in the area or visiting the area. it is not far from the DFW airport and is easy to get to from most any place in the metroples.

It is one of my favorite courses in the DFW area. I played the course the end of March and it was in excellent shape. It was also one of those rare days when we practically had the course to ourselves and with the exception of a single who played through we never saw another group.

 

Two things I will mention. Some of the areas off the fairways are marked with signs that state "Enviromentally Sensitive". I have seen similar signs on courses out in California and you may think there is nothing unusual about that; except the course is literally located in an industrial park next to an adjacent tank farm. I always think they just don't want to keep up that area, the signs just seem so out of place in Texas. Don't let my comment about the industrial park discourage you; except for a couple of fairways you never see the park and the course really is very scenic.

Great course but I would stay away during the heat of the summer. They have to water the bentgrass greens so much in the heat they stay way too soft. Your ball maks such a deep pitch mark that it is almost impossible to completely repair. By late summer they look pretty beat up. They do limit how much play they allow during this time as well and that does help.

Played there yesterday. Fairways and rough in great shape. Greens a little beat up and they had just recently punched them. However, they still rolled very true. Greens were actually very soft and on several occasions my approach shot would land and remain buried in it's own divot. I would recommend it to anyone that wanted a nice little course to play. Slightly high green fees for the conditions but would still highly recommend it. Great staff.

They post small discounts on Golfnow. They also have coupons on their website. That's about it though. They haven't been in Avid Golfer passbook in a few years now.

I like Texas Star. Solid layout, nothing fancy, some interesting elevation changes. Can't help with the coupons, but their regular rates are not bad. Here are photos of the course.
