Just purchased my first set of "vintage" clubs.

Always though those wilson irons were sweet. Cant beat the irons + woods combo.

Set of Buttonbacks aren't they? Very well bought. Let us know how you like them once you spend a some time with them. We always like follow-up postings.

LOL to the quoted comment. We're never "planning" on buying a set. They sort of just appear out of nowhere, when you least expect it. And that's my line used with the Mrs......."Just seemed to good (a deal) to pass up". Very much an affliction with no known cure short of taking up another endeavor.

I have played with the irons some. I cant hit the woods to save my life. Just need to spend some time with them to see if I can.

 

But the irons feel great. Launch much lower than what I currently play but distance isnt THAT much shorter than I am used to. Usually club up one but find myself hitting the same club often.

 

Hopefully can figure out how to hit the woods and not just hit worm burners.

Don't get hung up on having to hit a driver off the tee with the vintage. Ease into it, use a 4,3, or 2 as your tee club to get the hang of it. Drivers, the old #1, in vintage is a cat of a different color. Really have to be teamed up with the golfer like a pair of old Missouri mules, so try out a few, different heads, different shafts. It will not cost you an arm and a leg, the best I have cost me a dollar at a thrift store and I have gotten a number for free.

Check the hosels on both the woods and the irons.

 

By some chance, do they have the same Registration Numbers?

 

If so, then they are was a custom order set.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but aren't the woods and irons from different years? I think the irons are from '71-'72 and the woods from '73-'75. None the less, they are a beautiful set and at a bargain!

I think those woods look awesome. I'd play them. If you haven't played woods, my suggesting is to swing slower, focus on perfect contact, and then try to accelerate as much as possible from right at impact through the finish.

I believe those could be a limited edition set from 1986. Only 3000 sets made. They are a reproduction of the classic 1971 model. Dynamic Gold shafts were standard in this model. I have a golf club ID guide published in 1989 that describes the models of all the major manufacturers along with pics.
