Made the journey across the bridge out of the city to Mt. P. and Play It Again this morning. My younger son had told me they were selling new Teeter Hangups at a good price.

Tried one out in the store and ended up purchasing one. Just got off a session and I must say they are as advertised. Felt the same type of decompression action that I get on the torture rack at the chiropractor.

I have developed, for the first time, golfers elbow, in my lead arm. I spent way to much practice time the last few days on really compressing punch shots. Any ideas other that RICE and pills?

I've had a teeters hang-up for about 10 years now and it is the one piece of equipment I will never be without. You don't have to invert that far to get relief from back and muscle pain. If I come in from working in the yard or playing golf and my back is aching, all I have to do is invert for 3-5 minutes and all my pain is gone. Couldn't live without it.

Randy:

Suffered from tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis) for a few months two seasons ago. Same as golfers elbow (medial epicondylitis). Just a matter of which side of the elbow joint the tendinitis is occurring. Became quite debilitating to the point of barely being able to swing a club. And constant pain during the course of normal daily activities. Tried RICE and ibuprofen, helped the symptoms (a little) but did not cure the problem. Elbow strap/band was not effective while playing. Went to a MD that wanted to give me a steroid shot. Told him "no thanks" (that's a rant for another discussion about MD's).

Research led me to the Thera-Band FlexBar. It was getting highly positive reviews for curing tennis/golf elbow conditions. Picked one up off of Amazon, could not find it locally. Within three weeks of performing the "tennis" elbow exercise the pain was gone. Rather amazing. Now use it three times a week for general maintenance and strengthening. Looks to simple to be effective, but it was for me. Using the green bar (15# force), there are four different resistance levels. Just one person's experience. Like this:

Aleve gel capsules seem to work pretty well for me. I take 2 about an hour before I tee off.

I have a prescription for Cyclonenzapr which is a muscle relaxer that I take after I get home.

Gotta love seniors sharing their med lists.

LOL reminds me of being around the grill room at my club after the seniors club group has played their morning rounds. Actually I think a smart young person could hang around those guys and gain enough knowledge to pass their medical exams and get their MD Degree. Gee whiz the last time I was in there some of them had meds on the table examining them. I asked them if Wallgreen's up the street had any meds left in the Pharmacy? I was glad someone with the county drug task force did not walk in. Of course I can't talk much crap I am getting there at 58 and take BP meds and the Advill for arthuritus

I also do the streaching thing to stay loose and also I swing a weighted club. In fact I have 3 weighted clubs I swing with various weights to loosen up every day

i am a few years older than the original poster. I would suggest a couple of ADVIL (or similar meds),before teeing off. Do some stretches before you drive to the golf course. Hit about a dozen full swing practice balls and a few chips and putts . Have additional painkillers in your golf bag. If you start to ache or feel tight while swinging, don't wait till it hurts to take a pill. Remember, you're fortunate to hit a few good shots and view the divots from above the grass

In all due respect I am not as old as most of you guys but I have a beat up body due to my own stupidity when younger from racing cars and riding motorcycles. I usually take my 4 ibuprofen and wash it down with coffee before playing it helps my ankles and hands. My Doc says 4 is ok for me because I am a big guy. Like you Mr Penna I carry a bottle in my bag. Now I do not over do it. I still work everyday so I do not take them when not playing golf or hitting balls. If I feel my self tightening up or hurting at the turn I will take a couple more

Remember that not playing golf at all is worse than hitting bad shots. Age means you have to put a lot of effort into hitting the shots that were easy when you were younger. Take pleasure in the venue, the company, and the few shots you can still hit well. Today, I can miss any shot, but I can also execute any shot well. Unfortunately, age means I can only hope to hit a dozen good shots in a round

UPDATE: Well, I have been going for Occupational Therapy for my right shoulder for a couple of weeks. Just 2X per week and they only give me mild exercises and stretches to do, along with Ultra Sound. They say they don't want pain, they want STRETCH! I do them at home and they gave me a very good heating pad (Micro Wave), and also a very good Ice Pack. It is improving a bit but is still sore in certain positions. I DON'T THINK it has anything to do with Osteoarthritis! I think it is simply a Strain or Tendinitis from excessive play. Hopefully, I'll be good to go in April.

Well, at age 74 and never having any medical situation restricting sports activity; I guess I have to bite the bullet and accept that this onset of a small amount of Osteoarthritis (Wear & Tear Arthritis) in my right shoulder AC joint is going to be with me for the rest of my days. The only discomfort comes with certain positions at night when I sleep or move, then no problem when I'm up and moving during the day. I have not played since last Dec 15th. I'll be honest and say that I am nervous and apprehensive because, I'm a good lifetime player and have never had any medical issues. I play around 50 (18 Hole) rounds a year, and I walk. Physical Therapy at the VA Hospital really didn't do much for me but Microwave liquid heat pad in the AM, stretching, and Icing after certain activities along with (1) Liquid Aleve Capsule if I feel any discomfort, (I rarely take this) seems to be what works for me. There is NO QUESTION that I am going to keep on playing, God willing, but I want to ask others in my age group to advise me as to what to do before playing and after playing. I have received encouragement by hearing other golfers say that they have been dealing with this for many years and just take it as part of growing older, which is what the Doctors at the VA tell me. They ALL say....Keep on playing and stay active!! I'm a big believer in listening to those who have "Gone Before" so.....If anyone has some good advice, I'd love to hear it. Thanks. :help:

Sounds to you like you have my routine down pat. Wake up, heat wrap in microwave. Warm up the back, then a daily stretch routine. Daily activity to follow, then ice if needed. Anti-inflammatory if really needed.

Well OK "Rocker." That's good to hear. (It's probably what everybody does.) I guess there is not really much else that we can do!

The ruling bodies, NBC, and the corrupt IOC are the ones pushing Olympic golf. They only want to increase their pocket books. But it's not just the Olympics. They also want to tell us how the Players is a 5th major, or how important the FedEx cup is, or the Ryder Cup, or the Presidents Cup, etc etc.

No. For truly historical purposes, the golf being played is important 4 times/year. The majors. The rest are just interesting exhibitions and money making opportunities.

It's like they don't realize that you can't make every event the pinnacle of the sport. It waters things down and in the end makes nothing seem to have any importance or historical significance. I sometimes think the powers that be would like to have 52 "major" weekends a year. It's not going to happen. Four. You get four.

That's my opinion.

Well I played my first round of the year yesterday. Didn't know what to expect but I really wanted to find out what this "Wear & Tear" Arthritis was all about. Since I last played on Dec 15th of 2015 and then being informed that I now have a bit of Osteoarthritis in my right AC shoulder joint, I have to be honest and say that there were a few nights when the shoulder and top of the arm really hurt like hell over the Winter months. Not in the daytime but at night while trying to sleep. Yesterday, I took an Aleve Liquid Gel Cap, Hot Shower, had a bowl of Oatmeal and some toast and coffee, did some warm up exercises at the course prior to teeing off. I never hit one single ball on the Driving Range and just went out "Cold" and shot an 87 and won all 3 legs of the $2.00 Nassau. :yahoo: I played one ball for the entire 18 holes and was always in the short grass and was never out of play. Hit all clubs well and my 74 year old yardage is the same as last year. (Driver carry around 210 and 7 iron around 140) BEST PART..........I didn't feel any pain at all AND........I still don't!! I iced the shoulder for 15 minutes when I got home in case there was some swelling and it STILL feels fine with absolutely no pain. I have to add that I always walk my rounds with a Sun Mountain Speed Cart and not being someone who takes any medication, I only took 4 Aleve Liquid Gel Caps over the Winter. It did hurt sometimes but I try as best I can NOT to take too many of those Aleve Gel Caps. I'm sure some discomfort will return in some form or another but, it appears that the Doctors were right: When you get Osteoarthritis, you will be able to function almost normally as long as you stay active! I am amazed! The worse thing that you can do is to become sedentary. I can't tell you how happy I am! :good:

I'm happy you're back out there, rony.

How much longer until you can shoot your age or have you done so already?

Thanks Leo. No, I have not shot my age yet. Also, just to be clear, I play from the White Tees. ;)

Rony, remember this rhyme. :)

Brite white is alright,

Black or Blue you suffer when your through.

Play the tees you like, and when you go home at night, the world you live in will be just right.

Hah, Ha! That is "EXCELLENT!" Thank you for that Eidolon. :clapping:
