I grew up in a small town along the Ohio river, Baden to be exact. Watched the steelers starting the late 50s. Bobby layne, buddy dial, dick hoak, John Henry Johnson, Ernie stautner, .... didn't win much but this story always spoke to me of the steelers and the league of old.

 

In the book Passion for Sports by The Sporting News, former teammate Andy Russell shares an anecdote that highlights Stautner's elite toughness. Russell, then a rookie playing on a team that would eventually finish in fourth place in what would be Stautner's final season, sees the grizzled veteran return to the huddle holding one of his hands in the other. Russell looks down and sees that Stautner has a compound fracture of the thumb; one of his thumb bones is visibly sticking out of his skin. Russell is the only one who notices, and Stautner says only, "What's the play?" Then he plays the rest of the defensive series. When the defense returns to the sideline, Russell watches Stautner, thinking that surely he must seek medical attention now. Instead, Stautner says to someone, "Give me some tape." Then Stautner taped up his hand into a club, and he played the rest of the game.

And, he was playing for peanuts. Different breed of man back then. How many saw combat in WWII? Walk in the park compared to Normandy. Perspective...

Patriots have only lost one game at home against an AFC opponent since 2007.

Aaron Rodgers is on an unbelievable winning streak right now at the right time.

Matty Ice and Falcons can drop 30 points on anybody.

Steelers with Bell will get an almost guaranteed 150 yards on the ground.

 

It is time to pick the winners though by gut or with your heart.

These two games are a coin flip to pick a winner I believe.

 

And just look at the 4 starting QB's for this weekends games. It can't get any better than those four QB's gents.

Long range look at Boston weather for this Sunday is showing 41* and no precipitation. Winds 9-13 mph.

 

My gut tells me Atlanta and Pittsburgh. I am probably the biggest fool for going against Brady and Rodgers in the playoffs.

That is my gut call right there.

My heart would tell me Tom and Aaron's team, as they are two of my TOP 3 QB's to ever play the game. They are co-GOATS !

I like that during Aaron Rodgers interview via phone today on the Dan Lebatard show he was asked if

he could make that pass to Jared Cook along the sidelines in another location not inside a dome.

They asked for instance how about Lambeau Field in 10* cold.

 

He was silent for about 8 seconds. He started to snicker. He then said, "you already know the answer."

I trend dogs for whatever reason in most sports, especially CBB, I'd say I'm catching points on 75% of my CBB bets

Why not? Playoff scoring so far: Packers 38, 34 Falcons 36... and, now, each team faces a worse defense.

Rodgers may be without Nelson and Adam's. People don't realize just how fast our team is until you watch them. Rodgers won't have the 8 seconds in the pocket to dance around like he did against the Cowboys. Falcons got this

If both Nelson and Adams are out, that will hurt, but WBIZ, in Eau Claire, is reporting that McCarthy has cloned Ty Montgomery, so TM2 and TM3 can play whatever positions necessary. They may split out Jared Cook, maybe go 2 TE. Plus, Mason Crosby played a little WR in Pop Warner, so they should be fine.

 

We'll see about those speedy Falcon rushers. It's not like Rodgers just stands there waiting to get hit, lol. For having the league leading sacker, the Falcons didn't get to the QB much - the 'other 10' guys only recorded 19 sacks. They give up alot of yards, a lot of points, and don't get off the field on 3rd down. They did look like a team coming together last weekend, but Seattle on the road might not have been a good barometer.

 

I may give you a hard time, but I know it's pretty cool to have your team get this far in the playoffs. The Falcons haven't been there in a while, which makes it even sweeter. Enjoy the ride.

In the 33-32 game from earlier this year (when Rodgers was still "slumping") he still went 28-38 for 246 with 4 TDs and 0 INTs. He had Nelson starting to work his way back into form but no Randall Cobb, Ty Montgomery or Jared Cook. His RBs were Aaron Ripkowski (FB), Don Jackson and Knile Davis. Those last 2 guys were emergency call ups and aren't even on the roster anymore. The Falcons defender who gave AR the most trouble by far was Clayborn, and he's out for this game. I actually don't believe Atlanta will stop GB much but I'm not sure the Packers can stop Atlanta at all. This game will be all about who can force more FGs, and it will probably turn on whoever can force a freaky turnover or get a big special teams play because neither team is prone to INTs.

I think you do have a point. The game could come down to which defensive secondary plays better.

One bad PI at the wrong time could decide the game. Calls made or not made regarding PI's will be huge in this match up.
