For those that have applied the GG pivot

Annual subscription is up for renewal in February, I got the early bird rate, I assume will be rebilled at regular rate, which is still a pretty good deal if same amount of content is posted, but debating whether to stay on or not, there's enough to digest what's there right now. Thoughts?

Are you improving?

Not sure if this GG video has been posted here before, but I just found it today. It's one of the best lessons on explaining and curing OTT that I've ever seen:

I'm a big fan of this. Get the path way right with rightward swing direction and then add rotation to bring it back to earth. I tend to want to swing left too much and this gets me back to normal.

He has a better one. Basically says to keep both thumbs pointed behind you throughout the swing.

Sounds interesting. Any idea on the name of it so I can find it?

I like his videos and have been working on his swing techniques. Unfortunately I haven't been able to hit balls but practice swinging has shown I'm no long coming over the top and my swing speed has increased. So it's a start.

Through my own instructor. Some of what Gankas is teaching overlaps with my pro, but using the site more as supplementary info, seeing what other pros have to say.

I think I'm going to let it lapse, still catching up with his recent vids. Will go back when I've gone through all his material. Just don't have the time to digest everything.

Since mid-October, I've had the best ballstriking of my life. I still need to improve some things, but I hope the success continues through winter and into the new season.

Same thing I'm doing.

Q, what's your downswing thought on the freezer. Leave arms up and rotate?

Yep! Sit into my right side, leave the hands high and wide, and keep rotating through impact.

looking super pure

really like the amount of steep to shallow you have, much nicer to look at than the extremes of some of his guys like Ruiz

Just kind of a "duh" moment as I've been practicing.

Been doing a lot of transition work, sitting, passive arms, etc... but not as much release work. For instance, I would practice getting into a great position at p6 on the downswing, freeze frame there and check my position... basically totally forgetting to work on progressing it through the swing and figuring out how to release the club with the new move. Resulting in some really bad combinations of my old compensations combined with an attempt to try a new body move.

So yea, long story short, as you work on all of the transition stuff, don't forget to continue rotation in one fluid motion into what's going to probably feel like a new release pattern as well. I was really stuck on progress and actually regressing until I started linking the entire swing together in slow mo. Now I've got all the feels working together.

In his latest video GG describes how proper tilt at address comes from bending the upper spine to the right and not with a hip bump. I have always read that the hip bump creates the proper reverse K setup. Which is correct?

I think most guys do it GG's way...But still a lot that do the reverse k with hip bump. I don't think either are wrong...Just depends on what you wanna do.

He just doesn't want the hit bump to "block out" rotation on the downswing. So it would need some correction on the back swing if you start with the hip bump already.

Any good feels someone can recommend for starting the pivot correctly? I'm having a really hard time shallowing the shaft by the pivot. I have to manipulate it with my hands if i want it to drop on plane. Many thanks in advance

Yup, GG seems to be a big believer in it is much tougher to have a muscle go in its intended direction in the down swing once it's already been "used" in the backswing, ala his preference for the right shoulder going internal to external. Most of his guys in his preferred model have a super stand it up, lay it down "look" like Ryan Moore/Furyk/Joe Durant etc and if you play around some of his guys you see some super exaggerated Ryan Moore looking rehearsals.

Yeah i have noticed a lot of his guys are very steep going back and shallow coming down. I like the steep to shallow idea. HStead, i think you are right, the freezers are the best way to ingrain the pivot. Makes it so you can't cheat. Do you ignore ball flight when doing freezers?

From my lesson with George:

Practice

One of the big takeaways was how I should practice and prepare for events. In the past, I’ll be the first to tell you I didn’t practice efficiently. I would hit balls more than anyone I know, but it probably wasn’t the best way to bring about a swing change. For example, I would grind for an hour or two hitting 9i after 9i at the 150 flag, maybe working on a specific feel, and then get disappointed if I wasn’t flagging it.

GG talked to me a lot about moving between internal and external focus during a practice session. For example, set aside 10 balls and work on exaggerated moves sitting into the R and keeping the hands high at 50%. You can think about mechanics but don’t worry about where the ball goes! Then, set aside 10 balls and only think about targets, such as playing the iron point game. Alternate between those modes and it should help incorporate the change faster.

Whichever works. I'd say that most who bump the hip eventually overdo it and it causes them to get way to "stack"ed and makes it impossible to turn the left hip through.

Left knee down and around, leave the arms up. Any manipulation of "trying" to do anything at all with the hands or arms is not going to work out well with the GG stuff.

Freezers, slow motion down and around, making sure you are not pulling the arms down, really really slow to get the feel of "leaving the arms up". Should do it. I don't want to speak for Q, but I think one of the magic moves for him was letting his right shoulder stay a little internally rotated at the top instead of maxing out external rotation at the top. That way you have "room" to go external when the pivot starts.

Those are all just ideas but maybe something to start with.

Maybe dumb question but hope others like me have wondered...

If you leave the hands "up" or "high"... Then how do they (and the club head) get to impact?

Making sense of this part may help a lot with working on the pivot.
