Aside from the odd great 1 iron , I can't remember many great shots JN hit , maybe the competition wasn't that strong?

Anybody fancy putting up jacks scoring averages so we can see how much better he was than TW?

Take it for what it's worth, Jack's best scoring average ever was in 1973 at 69.81 which narrowly edges Tiger's 2013 average of 69.88. Tiger also had 10 additional scoring averages better than 69.5 and for a long time had 8 of the top 10 lowest averages of all time. Last year Spieth and Day ruined that dominance by taking the 6th and 7th positions with scores around 69.0. The outlier here is Byron Nelson's 68.33 which is still the second best average of all time.

I think you have to look at the adjusted averages to get a true reflection . I didnt see TW playing the hope and Vegas events which are good for knocking down your actual scoring average. Some piss easy courses on nelsons mammoth season

Look how much of a toothpick Woods was amateur days...and then....

Well, Jack got bigger (plumper, lol), but not in the sort of way Mr. Woods did.

Nevertheless, I laid out a pretty pertinent little fact as far as both of those fellas' major performances:

Jack 18 wins + 19 2nds

Tiger 14 wins + 6 2nds

WHO, again, was the more consistent and fared better in majors???

And people here still claim he is better than the Golden Bear.

Career top tens in majors -

Jack 73

Tiger 38

Not that it really means anything. :)

PGA Tour victories

Tiger Woods 79

Jack Nicklaus 73

Also,

This is for you ; )

And I will always add 79-71 individual wins. Jack gets credit for a couple wins of the type they no longer get credit for.

Are you factoring in the enormous changes in equipment development, course care etc? You're funny.

How about, "It's OVER, the Tiger era is GONE!"............Get used to it folks, it was a great run, but it's OVER!!!!!!............

So if he comes back next year what will you say ? noob

Come back, sure he will....Be a factor, probably not..........He's starting all over again, regardless of his previous record.......Hope I'm wrong, has more pressure on him than any athlete ever!!......Plus a whole lot of egg on his face........

Egg? From what? Back surgery? You may recall he seemed to have recovered from the chipping y**s (can you use that eyed on wrx?).

My list of greatest of all time goes as such:

1-Jones

2-Nicklaus

3-Woods/Hogan

...as greatest (top to bottom).

Smoking away :) This is the logic that eludes me. When discussing Jack versus Tiger it conveniently just becomes 18-14. Ignoring 79-71 and other stats. But a whole list that can have an amateur on top? With smaller numbers. Hard to use the " well he retired young" line when the longevity excuse is used against Tiger.

You can have your opinions certainly. Notice I am not calling you out for worshiping your gods Bobby and Jack? Why do that to those that favor Tiger as Goat?

Tiger was the newest and most fresh and exciting, so everyone just pisses on the past?

A lot of the Tiger fanboys are just too young to even know or care about the past. This new generation is quite the quickie crowd and can hardly maintain their attention for longer than a minute. Okay, Trevino and another legend or two has said such, but again I think it refers to his flashy and explosive style.

Have you ever watched any episodes of Bobby Jones' old show? His swing was the most flawless thing I have ever seen - more so than Snead or Hogan, and:

Jones averaged one round a week during his playing days, and he put the clubs away most of the winter! He was an amazing talent that may never be duplicated. In his last 12 national championships (U.S. and British), he was first or second a staggering 11 times.

^That's from a Golfwrx article. "AN AMAZING TALENT THAT MAY NEVER BE DUPLICATED."

Jones was the greatest of all time, better than either or Jack, Hogan or Woods. IMO Woods sits tied for third with Hogan in the all time list.

As you said, that's my opinion. (For the record I'm in my mid-30s in age)

When deciding who is the GOAT, you have to look at their entire career. Not just one year or even 10 years.

Clearly, JN is the GOAT because the most important measure that 99% of the people on the planet use is majors and his margin in major wins is HUGE and his margin in major top tens is HUGE.

But here are some other "bests"

Best ten year stretch; Tiger

Best season; Nelson, Tiger, Hogan, Spieth

Best tournament; Tiger

The bottom line is Tiger may or may not have been better than Jack during their primes, but Jack clearly is the GOAT.

142 straight cuts - unbeatable.

Well, you know what he had to say about TW,

The great Byron Nelson saw Woods a couple of years ago and couldn't wait to get to a phone. Nelson called his ward, the great Tom Watson. "I've seen Ben [Hogan] and Jack and you. I've seen 'em all," said Nelson. "Tom, this young fellow has no weakness."

Keep moving your goalposts...

Anyone with healthy eyesight and half a brain could see that Tiger was the best golfer we have ever seen. Not even close.

That's BS, and that has been proven in this thread a dozen times over.

If Tiger was better than Jack not only would he have beaten his major wins record he would have had a helluva lot more runner ups than 6. Phil had 6...in the U.S. Open alone.

Jack had NINETEEN.

Just give up, son. Your age (and bias) is showing.

Jack was the best and most strongly consistent major winner and performer EVER (outside of arguably Jones).

Honestly a few years ago I still thought Tiger was going to destroy Jack's 18 record...boy was I wrong. A few years ago I would have possibly given the nod to Woods, but he just barely got 14...sorry, Charlie. Your God is no Jack Nicklaus.

PGArox is a big Phil fan. Not a TW fanboy by any measure.

And hes just an objective observer here.

Nobody is taking anything from Jack. He clearly has the greatest career. But TW played the game at a higher level for a long period of time.

As Lord Byron said, "no weaknesses"

Except pancakes ; )
