Dynamic Gold S300 vs S300 AMT

After using KBS Tour's for the last couple of years, I am thinking of making the switch back to dynamic gold. I have been swinging a friend's clubs (similar to mine) and have realized I miss the feel of dynamic gold. Now, with the new AMT option, I have no idea what to get. I have tried reading the forums here, and from what I gather, people are very mixed on the AMT's. Obviously everything through the 7 iron should be similar, but are people really hating the the lightness of the long irons that much?

why did Titleist do AMT on the 716's? I want original S300 on a set of 716's I want to buy...all the ones in the shop have AMT...

 

They like to market what is "new" or newer.

 

If in doubt, stay with original DG. They're proven decades over across the world. Keep in mind that just about every other popular shaft is constant weight, as well

My take on the AMT shafts available as the "garden variety" (non Tour Issue) is to be careful that your fitter has weight sorted them from a pile of available shafts to ensure you are actually getting close to the spec'd 3g weight increments. If you buy a set of these shafts off-the-shelf, then the manufacturing tolerances of the non-Tour issue DG AMT's can almost completely defeat the purpose since they're supposed to be Ascending weight in AMT. I have seen too many shaft pulls now from non-Tour AMT sets that do NOT match the stated 3g increments and in many cases have no increment at all from shaft to shaft (one shaft is too heavy and the next is too light). There's still a change in weight over the entire set, but it's not a smooth progression. If you stick to the Tour Issue variety then you avoid much of this problem.

why did Titleist do AMT on the 716's? I want original S300 on a set of 716's I want to buy...all the ones in the shop have AMT...

 

I don't have proof of this, but I believe the AMT is geared toward DG loyalists that are starting to lose distance in their irons, especially longer irons. Titleist must feel that is the same target market for their 716s...

FWIW, I have the AMT shafts in my 716 CB/MB set. I've had no issue with the longer irons. In fact, I've probably never hit them better.
