Had mine 12 days ago. While I would not want to go through it again, it wasn't near as bad as I was expecting.

I hear just about everyone say that..seems like most of the pain is the numbing. I've had plenty of that act the dentist but it seems like this will be worse.

It's uncomfortable before the shot because the doc has to find the Vas. My doc squeezed the area between my sac and leg to find it then he holds it tight. He was holding it tight enough where it's uncomfortable and then he injected the local which I could barely feel because of how tight he was holding the Vas down there.

After that I couldn't feel anything.

The coolest part was the 2 Valium pills I got before the local anasthesia. The 2 worst parts were the smell of cauterized flesh, and feeling like you got kicked in the nuts for a week every time you stand up.

Of course, 5 years later my wife and I decided we wanted a 3rd and ended up adopting.

Got mine back in December.... The valium made the initial procedure very tolerable. Just took a few minutes and chatted college football with the doc the whole time. I kept it really low key first few days. I laid on the couch and watched football and movies. Took pain meds every few hours, wore a jock strap, and put frozen peas on it every few hours.

Keep wearing the jock for a full week and don't get back to things too fast!! I screwed up and dropped it on day 4 thinking I was good, moved around too much, then had to limp through a business trip on days 5 and 6 with some annoying pain.... But after about day 8, total business as usual

Frozen peas. You'll thank me later.

My problem is LOFT -- Lack of friggin' talent

Just got done with the vas. It was a price of cake. The numbing didn't hurt at all. Just a few times when they were moving things around that I felt like someone kicked me in the nuts. In and out the door in 30 mins.

Wife wants to go to Panera bread for breakfast. I'm passing because of the 3 ice packs in my pants.

Tomorrow is the day I've been looking forward to, yet terrified about, for the past couple of months. It's vasectomy day :). Any words of wisdom from this peanut gallery?

Had mine in my late 20s, about 35 years ago. Never looked back. It wasn't that bad. Looked worse (black and blue) than it felt. You'll be fine

A couple years ago I had one scheduled and was dreading it for the entire two months ahead of it. Totally dreading it. One friend of mine had his sack turn black and swell WAY up. The thought of sharp objects down there was enough to drive me mad. Not much frightens me. This did. About two weeks before the dirty deed my wife starts a bit of bleeding. Turns out she needed an ablation that totally removed my need for the vasectomy. YES! One of the great days of my life, even though I could not celebrate in front of my wife. I was feeling badly for her about her surgery (fairly minor) until Infound out what it meant for me. ?

3 days removed and Im back to work. Had no swelling at all and very little bruising. Sat in my recliner and iced all day Thursday, did a little shopping with my wife Friday, and rested Saturday. Sunday I felt pretty much back to normal with the occasional feeling in the gut. Really simple procedure. A little weird but simple. I had a prescription for Ativan which seemed to really relax me.

The worst part of the whole thing was finding out Friday that my home course was opening for the weekend due to the nice weather!

I know there are some valid horror stories, but it seems like if you choose your doc well you will have good results with very little to no pain.

Valium was a big help. I remember my wife laughing at me as she sat next to me as the all female staff snipped it away.

I was running a few days later. Just really supported the boys.

Of course don't forget you have to wait, about 4 weeks before you can resume sex and have to empty your gun about 20 times before you can "engage in intercourse."

Now just remember you need to clean the pipes about a dozen times, get the end result tested as you can still have swimmers in there! Not sure what's more embarrassing having a Dr cutting ya sack open or dropping off a bag that says "Yup I just tossed off for this". LOL

I asked if it mattered whether or not saliva was mixed into the sample.

Wow - memories - had mine done back in summer of 2013.

We had our 3rd in December of 2012 so my wife as a precaution to giving birth had presoaked maxi pads and froze them for her to use post delivery.

I had my procedure and was going for a bag of Peas when i found a few pads left over....man they were perfect!! Tidy Whities and a frozen maxi pad!!

Yes sir!! discomfort was only about a week - shot my best round that week cuz i still was walking gingerly, and couldnt OVER SWING! it was amazing!

and i remember the first time i cleaned the pipes it was Rusty colored which i didnt expect...but after a panicked call to the doc, it was all well/normal.

Good luck!!

Had mine done about a year and a half ago. Left side was fine. It the right side was not numb enough and felt the incision. Doc shot me up again and all was good. That was on a Friday. On Tuesday my wife was admitted to the hospital due to premature labor and spent two days there. Trying to be the supportive husband I helped her get comfortable. Was a little embarrassing to ask the nurse for an ice pack but I got one and sat in the rocker. A friend of mine had the same issue with a different doctor. The Valium they gave me to take, three of them, did little to relax me. Still wasn't a big deal.
