Squirt some solvent down the shaft, and let it work under the grip and blow it off. Should be easier since there was no double sided tape.

Going to change a shaft and wondering if anyone has saved their Bestgrips leather

grips. If so was it with Air and/or hypodermic needle. Grip was applied with solvent and air

on painters tape.

Thanks

leather grips are easier to syringe since no fluid penetrates the grip itself

done heaps just a few seconds

I've seen this written before, but for the life of me it just doesn't click. If you squirt the solvent down the inside of the shaft, how does it work it's way under the grip?

The only way this works is to clamp the shaft at 45*, use a large syringe, fill the syringe then the shaft with white spirit and just keep going (a little pressure required) until it spills over and under on the inside of the grip, it then slides off.

Whatever works.

I wouldn't reccomend doing that with a bestgrips grip.

The air pressure forces it around the top of the shaft and down between grip and shaft if you have the venthole well stopped. Takes very little solvent. Wear eye protection obviously. With Bestgrips you want bursts of minimal pressure and the absolute least twisting of the grip you can manage. Set your pump at 50psi and give it little blasts until the grip starts working its way off, then a steady pull with a firm grip. Really no problem if you used no double--sided tape and only slightly more if you did use tape.

I just removed one from my old driver to install on a new driver I bought over the winter. I used 2-sided grip tape, solvent, and WD-40 to install. To remove, I used my heat gun sparingly for about 30 seconds while constantly moving it around the entire grip to loosen the glue of the tape. I pulsed my air needle with the compressor and the grip came right off. I reinstalled it on the new driver and it seems good as new.

  • 2 years later...

just got some best grips microperf. i dont own a compressor or any tools for regripping so they will be dropped off at my local clubmaker. First impression does seem like its ever so slightly thicker than standard so im planning on installing with no tape.

So let me get this straight. These grips can go on the shaft with absolutely no tape or solvent?. All you need is just air? Correct ? Can someone give me a rundown on exactly what to tell my clubmaker on exactly what to do ? (just in case, hes never dealt with Microperf).
