Considering Joining a Mens Club

SlamMan

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for an excuse to play a little more this summer and get better so I was considering joining a men's club. I live in Arvada so preferably something on that end of town.

I'm just picking up golf again after a few years off so I'm a hack right now. I've never played in a men's club so I'm not sure if it's a good option as a hack and a noob and I'm looking for some input.

I can't speak for other clubs but I love mine (member at Blackstone / black Bear). We have about 210 members in the MGA, hold 11 MGA sponsored events a year (which are flighted) and all the guys are great. Not to mention the number of club sponsored events such as member/guest, member/member and club championship.

I would say if you're on the fence about doing it, do it. I think you'll enjoy it.

When you guys talk about men's clubs in Denver, you're not actually joining the course correct? It's just a separate orgization that holds events at the course? Green fees and such still apply? Mainly a way to have regular competerive golf?

Sorry for all the questions, just not too familiar with this and since we're planning a move there fairly soon just trying to gain as much information as possible.

Correct. Almost every public golf course has a men's golf association (or men's club). The only requirement is to pay the yearly fee. The format of each men's club and the types of tournaments they host varies greatly. Most men's club have their own website that can give you a better idea of how they operate.

Don't forget that there are also four traveling golf leagues in the Denver area. I like those because it allows you play on a variety of courses throughout the season.

Looks like you're back into golf...and posting! Used to live in Arvada right by Standley Lake. What a great area!

That sounds like a lot of fun.

If you don't mind, what are the names of the leagues?

Welcome to Arvada. There is a men's club at West Woods that has a fairly full schedule with a bunch of options. They are renovating their clubhouse, so the social aspect may not be that great this year. Indian Tree might be a good option as well. Not a bad course at all.

Haha. I actually grew up in the Arvada, Westminster area but thanks for the welcome. :drinks:

I'm pretty sure a buddy of mine signed up at Indian Tree so I'll probably do that.
