.....and then I read that Phil is going to look an even bigger tool by wearing 'dress shirts',made from a hi-tech,wicking fabric (polyester) that will be the same as those available to the general public.

Whoopydo!

Only $125 each....

Like I told the folks over in one of the clothing threads the way I dress we call it Shabby Chique. Saturday I had on blue dress shorts a blue shirt with the Green and White Nike shoes with pink laces. Also had my straw Tabasco hat on which on the back says "bite me" There were some folks giving away sunglasses and of course I got a pair of pink ones or at least the part that goes over your ears is pink. The young lady giving them out did not think I would rock them. Bear told her "trust me he will". My next thing is going to be what I call the tropical shirts I guess they are called I call them Jimmy Buffett shirts. That is my next outrageous deal. Personally I have always marched to the beat of my own drum and love it when folks think I am crazy

I wondered if the shirt choice had something to do with Phil's health issues or the medications he takes for them. Some medications come with the advice to limit sun exposure. Watching him play, I got the impression he wasn't feeling well this week.

But I do understand the first reaction of "it's just Phil being Phil." He's certainly made plenty of choices over the course of his career that lead to fans having that sort of reaction.

"You think we play the same stuff you do?"

No,I have no issues with PM at all other than the claims made around his latest merchandise package, the shirts are ridiculously priced, probably ten times more than a non-PM advertised poly or poly/cotton shirt would cost and look quite unsuited for golf.

If he feels the (medical) need for long sleeves then I'm sure there must be better alternatives than these M&M offerings.

Chris, I was sent out today with 2 Twenty somethings and their bags full of gadgets and gizmos. At least they were nice kids and polite. I was packing my Mizzy Blades, old Callaway BB metal woods and a "White Driver." You can guess how that went for them.

There's no school like old school.

Wish I could give you more likes on that one--- "There's no school like old school"---- That was as much fun as screwing with the tourist golfers I bet. I got some curious looks last week at the scramble I played in with my old gauze taped Tommy Armour putter amongst the shiny Camerons and Odysseys etc. Got to show off a little bit. The 18th hole (our 12th) comes up by the clubhouse with a big porch so lots of folks were watching. It is a layup hole all of my partners were all over the place. I hit the stinger 3 iron off the tee to my range. Lots of folks were watching including a friend of mine who knows me well from way back in the day. We played my ball and I took a PW over the flag and spun it back. Someone asked my friend what I hit--- He told them more than likely some worn out beat to hell antique Macgregor. He asked me after one of my partners made the 1 ft putt. I told him the beat up part was right but they were beat to crap MP-68s--- He chuckled and said same difference. Grooves are good but a lot of dings and bag chatter----- Good gracious we have got to get together and play some old school golf and of course screw with the tourists and yuppies.

LOL Love It!

You mention the gauze taped putter. I've been taping my fingers while they heal from the new tattoo work. The kids asked me why my fingers were taped and I told them they were recently tattooed. They asked me what it said and when I told them "Golf Life" they both mumbled "Oh Sh_t."

I just grinned at them.

P.S. Would love to play with you sometime Stu even though I'm sure I'm no where in your league. A strong round for me is 80 and if my back is bothering me that number can go up dramatically. None the less I seem to play my best rounds when playing with the Tourists & Yuppies as you say.

P.S.S. I've been known to point out to some of those Cameron players that my old Ping Anser was dropping more putts than their over priced "Clone Club." ;)

Perhaps I should have said 80 was rare which is true. I dance if I shoot a mid-80's score!

In just a few weeks I'll start solely playing my Staff Button Backs and we'll see what happens then. I'm guessing there will be another adjustment period. Especially when moving from "the white driver" to persimmon. I will play them all summer then move to my Mizunos which I consider my transitional set in October, Play them until December then move to my Pings for peak season. Hopefully I'll have a set of the G700's to play this year as I'm saving up for them and they should be on sale by then. Then back to the Mizunos to transition back toward Classic play starting in March. So For me it works like this... June thru September Staff Button Backs, October& November Mizuno Set, December to mid-March Modern Pings, March thru May Mizunos. Around and around I go. lol

Bloody hell Tim!

You are waaay too organised!

I prefer the random approach of looking at the heap of clubs and deciding which ones deserve an outing and which must remain in the naughty corner for another week or so.

I picked up a half set of Mizzy T-Zoid Comp EZ last week,R400 Sensicore shafts and arthritic grips which I cannot get on with so ribbed Tour Velvet ordered, these are strongly fancied for a residency but the Vector shafted Apex II's I just regripped might have a case as well as the Cally X-Forged 07's and 13's!

Ah Chris, That's not written in stone by any stretch. It's just a basic start. My 60 Staffs make occasional appearances throughout and any set might come out on any given day. Especially if one of them has been misbehaving. ;)

I am the same way-- Debating on what irons to play myself--- definitely want to play either the 57 Diamondback Macs or the Hogan Precisions and to boot I have a set of pristine 62 Mac 4000s that Stickfish sent me. If I play the Macs I may play all persimmon depends where we play at. So many choices

Royal weddings.

Whilst a Royalist at heart and supporter of the constitutional monarchy (I've almost forgiven HRH for not impeaching that Blair creature as a war criminal) I find it hard to express my utter distaste for today's event.

Harry seems to be a good lad,I don't find Meghan appealing, one man's champagne is another man's soda water but what really grinds my gears is the parade of so-called 'celebrities' who have been invited to the wedding.

David and Victoria Beckham.

Idris Elba.(Yeah.Who?)

Oprah Winfrey.

Serena Williams.

Elton John

James Corden.

What should be a solemn occasion has been turned into a celebrity social outing of questionable taste, not surprising when one of the couple has been described as one of the 'Toronto royalty',LMFAO!

The House of Windsor is not known for its ability to choose wisely as regards spouses,I hope Harry has not bought a wrong 'un like his dad,I can't imagine grand-mama having much to say to Dave and Victoria, maybe ask Elton how his husband is coping with the arrival of a newborn (still haven't figured out how a man becomes pregnant?).

What a bloody shambles.

Stuff like that I am not the least interested in. I am not even interested that our President may have or may have not had had relations with some porn star. The way things are today the press and social media can twist any thing. As my Grannie used to say "Make huge mountains out of tiny molehills". Yeah I know Harry is royalty but if he is happy and she is happy so be it. I think it would have been funny though if they had said screw all the pomp and circumstance and the media too and had slipped off somewhere and eloped. I guess I am too old fogey too because I will be damned if I can figure out how a man can have a baby either. Today's world is all a shamble no matter where you go

Rant On:

Someone turn off the F'n water works!!! We're being drowned in Florida!

I got out 2 days ago and got 10 holes in before the deluge set in again. The course was already soggy and it hasn't stopped raining since! We are expecting at least another 10 days of this and the ground already can not absorb any more moisture. There is flooding problems everywhere and although we are safe thus far I have no way of knowing how long that will last. Even if we have no direct flooding threat the courses will take at least a week to dry out After It Stops Raining! That's assuming it does stop eventually. I am going to lose the miniscule grasp I normally maintain on my sanity!

Rant Off (for now)

Well, if it makes you feel any better Tim, it's partly sunny and warm here; a perfect day for golf. In fact a lot of days have been like that since the courses opened, but I'm not playing. I tried 9 holes about 4 weeks ago and couldn't do a darned thing for a week after! Until this back of mine shows some real lasting progress I won't be playing golf anytime soon no matter what the weather is doing. :(

I've been lap swimming for 16 years now. 200 yards was a huge accomplishment when I started. I now routinely do a mile (54 minutes). Usually swim four to five times per week, minimum 1000 yds. each time. I did 166 miles last year and on pace to do the same this year. I've got double helix scoliosis, almost bone on bone in left knee, no cartilage in right knee, busted up rotator cuff in right shoulder. and pins in my left shoulder. Unfortunately, I inherited the orthopedic disaster gene complex.

Interesting. I suffer from rotoscoliosis, although I can't really say that I suffered until it became an escalating problem. I've been doing physiotherapy based on yoga movements since last December in an effort to repair a muscle imbalance that my condition has caused. It was going along swimmingly until it wasn't about two months ago, so I'm kind of like a babe in the woods looking for the combination of things that might get the ball moving again in the right direction. I've always been quite active, but in the last year or so I'm finding it an increasing challenge to stay that way.

Props on your swimming! That's mighty impressive! I remember swimming a mile in about an hour when I was around 16 years old and thought that I had died, so doing that at my age seems beyond the realm of possible. That said, I have thought about getting a membership at a pool to introduce some sort of water based exercise into my program as it is easy on joints and excellent for strength conditioning. My BIL, who is several years older than me swims three times a week about the same distance that you do and has been doing it for years.

I support Smorg's suggestion of swimming. I also strongly recommend chiropractic care as it's done me a world of good. I also suggest... golf. No, not kidding. Sometimes when my back is bothering me the worst golf seems to help the most. Just make sure you ramp up very slowly if you try it. I go at least 3 holes before trying "full" swings. Then I slowly increase the swing speed over several more.

I've been going to a chiropractor for probably 25 years now. He used to help. Now not so much, in fact I'm pretty well convinced that he is irritating the underlying issue -- whatever that maybe -- when I have a treatment, particularly the last three months. I'm not going back.

I started to go to physiotherapy last winter in an effort to improve my flexibility and direct me on an exercise program to strengthen my core. That was working well until early March when I suffered what seemed like a minor relapse at the time. It seems to have gotten worse as I've been stepping up my activity working in the yard this spring.

As far as golf is concerned I decided that I wasn't going to attempt it again until I was feeling pretty close to normal and then as you say, ease back in slowly once or twice a week, nine holes at a time. That seems so far away based on how I've been feeling lately.

All I can say is that I'm sorry my friend. I do understand back pain as it is a daily companion. I hope you feel better soon. I also hope that whether you're swing the clubs or not that you stay active here.

I wish you nothing but the best.

Thanks for the well wishes, Tim. There will be an solution out there to what I'm currently going through. I just have to find it.

My problem is LOFT -- Lack of friggin' talent

Rave!

Very little rain yesterday and it was early. The wind picked up and was drying things out. Called one of the area clubs this morning that normally dries out better and they said 'Yup, 90 degree rule.' Got out there and they said there was hardly anyone out there did I want to wait or play by myself? Nope, I'm good. Off I go! Caught a foursome at 5. They let me play through at 7. Saw nobody else other than a couple other singles well behind me. No one came close to catching up. Finished the Championship length course at Boca Municipal https://www.golflink.com/golf-courses/fl/boca-raton/boca-raton-municipal-golf-course-1642 in 2 1/2 hours shooting par and bogie (mostly bogie) but was thrilled to get a full 18 holes in without getting wet!

Watched the Belgian Open Knockout over the weekend. Great innovation + galleries walking down behind the players, and best of allit was played on a shortish tree lined course.

Not one of those 'tree lined courses beloved of the PGA Tour where you can whack into the boondocks and get a free shot out.

This was tree line Jimmy Demaret style....'Long Hitters, the woods are full of them!'

DMD

Distance Measuring Devices

Both in general and more specifically those used by high handicap golfers.

In my antiquated view one of the key skills that was required to become a decent golfer was the ability to take into account terrain, estimated distance and wind, factor them together and produce a result that would define the stroke to be attempted.

By permitting the use of DMD the authorities have not only lowered the skill threshold but have contributed to even more time being wasted during a round.

Nearly all the old giffers I play with have those bloody watch things that tell them the yardages and of course I cannot resist when they mutter 'One Thirty Two' and I look at my watch and say 'No,Eleven Forty Five'.

I wouldn't mind but it becomes absurd when (as I witnessed on Monday) extravagant care is taken over an ostentatious flash of the Garmin,a tuft of grass tossed to test the breeze, club selected, five practice strokes and then a straight top of a hundred yards.

How many golfers of 15 handicap and above know precisely the yardage that they hit every club in the bag?

My point being that unless you consistently hit any given club an exact distance why do you need to know the precise yardage?

One of my dearest chums is a classic (85 yrs old) '109 yards to the pin,it's a wedge'.

Slightly uphill and into a breeze the ball comes up short of the green.

'Right off the bloody toe again!'

I can't knock him,a true gent and hope he plays for another 85 years!

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
