I played yesterday, and hit 12/14 fairways - as good as I could ever imagine. Like Gio, when I swing smoothly/deliberately in the backswing and come to a nice wide position at the top, I can give it as much as I can on the down and it provides perfect performance. It flies wonderfully straight into the wind - hit one 240-245 carry straight into a 20 mph wind, and is flightable and workable either way. I was able to hit perfect draws, straight balls, and nice fades with it, and all with wonderful smooth feel. I hit one 305 slightly downwind on a par 5, and hit it solid but didn't make a proper swing to elevate it like I know I can.

 

It really is the best shaft I have ever hit, and rewards a deliberate swing versus something super aggressive. YMMV.

I did however hit one that went thru a dogleg on my intended line so, even tho I missed the fairway, I hit it exactly how I wanted to ... just too far. not a REALLY bad problem to have.

 

the copper led me to a really smooth 71 (-1) with 4 birds, a double and a bogey. the amount of confidence I have with the driver since putting the copper in play has never been more point and shoot. sunday I hit a variety of shots since the course dictates playing both draws and cuts off the tee shots, and the stability and consistency of the shaft didn't disappoint.

I played today, shot 69 with 10/14 fairways hit. I can't wait to put the M1 460 on this beast and see what she does.

 

I made a minor swing change and it's getting me a lot more control, and a by product anyone could live with - more speed. Had some missiles today but, I feel with the m1 I'll be set. 917 is long, but just feels dead to me.

Tough call. I love the Pro Orange in the driver but like Pro White in the 3 wood. The difference would be similar on this one, but to be safe you might want to just to 80tx Copperhead in the 3 wood.

I just stuck a Pro Orange in another M2 deep face TS head and haven't hit it yet, but I think it's going to be really good. If I like that, I'd like Copperhead 80tx in a 3 wood. I'll let you know how it works out.

I play Pro Orange in my M1 440. But let me also say I only have ONE Copperhead at the moment and it has a Callaway tip on it. If I had a 2nd Copperhead I could tell you which one works best in my course driver. The only other one is a test shaft I can't shorten it to suit me. Basically I need to wait a couple weeks until I get more to honestly answer your question. Saying that, I have no complaints about Pro Orange and how it's working for me.

the amounts currently available are due to the fact it was only JUST released to tour in the last month or so, and assuming Aldila is like most shaft companies - they want a bit of time to prove it out before bringing it to full production. if they're waiting till the release of the G400, there's a possibility they have plenty of them, they're just waiting to release at the appropriate time; ie coincide with the Ping launch.

I know for fact that stiff flex of these don't even exist in most weights yet. This shaft is still in Tour testing and development stage. I'd be shocked to see a real deal $400 Copperhead in anything released in the next 6 months, and even then I'd assume it will be more like a $250 upgrade.

I fully intend to order a new G400 and I was thinking to take a shot in the dark at the Copper shaft. My SS is around 110-115 range and I was thinking like a 70g in stiff (maybe tipped a 1/2")?

 

Am I correct that the flexes go: S then X then TX?

TX is just the notation for X --- all of us who asked for X got TX.

 

if you're in the 110-115 range, the TX is fine -- that's where i'm at.

Forgive me for not reading through everything here, but would one consider the copper a "smooth" profile or is it more on the "boardy" side?

 

I personally like to feel where the head is in my swing, so a smooth profile tends to fit me better.
