Been 7 years since I pulled the trigger on some new irons.   Ordered up the 5-PW Titleist T100 last night and also got a new carry bag as I would like to occasionally walk this season, even if it is with a push cart.   Was contemplating getting the new black finished version but really wanted some KBS C Taper shafts in them and didn't think the irons would look right without a black colored shaft on them.  By just getting the standard finish it opened up the opportunity on the bag.   I'll send my MP-25's down to Charlotte to live with my mother so I have a set there, and bring back my MP-33's and probably sell them.  They are still fun to play but I would rather send them to someone who can swing them more than 2x a year.

Nice Bone,

did I see the pw is 42d?

I’ve been playing the 704’s for a few seasons now, seem to be similar in style if 10 years apart

Do you think Trappers is better than Wild Rock?

I don't.  WR is more open off the tee and less trouble, yet plenty of challenge into the greens...Scenic, elevation change, and 18 good holes.  TT can be narrow off the tee with thicker rough and a bit more tricky to know where to hit it, essentially can turn into a slog if a bit wayward off the tee.  Scenic in spots, with some elevation change as well. TT has 27 holes so a bit of variety.  I don't dislike TT, it's still a a solid option, but it isn't the course WR is!  You could do them both and decide for yourself?  If it were me and you were doing two and didn't want to drive, WR and TT.  If you don't mind driving a little, WR and Northern Bay...or something like  Reedsberg CC.

Nah it is your standard 46 degrees.   The T100S drops to 44 and the 200 and 300 are set at 43 degrees.  I definitely looked as I know a lot of companies are playing with those lofts.

You boys sound like a bunch of old coots.  Said the old coot!

It sort of broke my heart to put the MIzzy blades away and start bagging P790's with a 45* PW.  Yeah, yeah, I get it.  Throw in some tungsten, perimeter weighting and "speed foam" and you get distance and a high ball flight.  But every time I look down at a top line as thick as an expressway....(sigh).  I'm older than Bernhard Langer and he is better shape, so if I am still going to play 6500 yards and enjoy challenges like EH and The Straits....A guy has to do what a guy has to do.

I totally get it Phred.  I turn 47 in late spring and this could be my last players type iron so did my research and figured why not?  If I can't hit them I'll sell and get something else but these should take me into my early 50s and then I can re-evaluate club speed, where I am playing, etc...   You do what you have to do in order to score, can't blame a guy for that.

New T100 irons showed up Saturday.  Tempting to try to get out to Range Time in Racine and hit a bucket of balls outside.  Unfortunately my schedule is such that the 2 hours I have scheduled to play 36 virtually on Saturday will likely be the first time hitting them.

I got an email this morning from Sand Valley.  They are now taking reservations for 2024.  Yikes!  I have trouble planning for next week!

A foursome is pretty tough to get in at places like Sand Valley and Bandon Dunes.  But if you are willing to go alone you can play most days and even with two guys there are alot more openings than you think.

3-4 guys (which is what most people want) is tough and you need to plan ahead.  If you are willing to have only yourself or a buddy its pretty easy to get on even in primetime.  The lodging is the issue most of time but tee times are usually there if you wanted to play the courses

This is good to hear. I am going to have a chance to sneak away for a day mid July. As a single, it sounds like I should be able to schedule tee times that work to play 36? Or has that changed post pandemic?

I have been to Sand Valley 2 times as a single and last year played it in primetime and called a few days prior....lodging again is the issue but getting on as a single is no problem if you jsut want a tee time.  Bandon is pretty much the same thing.  I had no issue getting tee times to Bandon as a single in primetime.

Now if you try today you will not be in luck but come summer time it will not be an issue

Booked my Sand Valley trip over Memorial Day weekend 2024.  Only had to wait on hold about 10 minutes.  Got the Lido for a sunset round on the 1st day I'm there as that's the only day that was available to play. Did confirm it's only available Sunday-Thursday for resort guests.

Sedge Valley isn't available to book yet but sounds like they're re-assessing this spring/summer and will let us know, said to plan on it being open at which point you can swap out rounds.

They're adding an outdoor heated pool with a hot tub, which sounds amazing.  Also, they are adding a BBQ restaurant.

SV 24 Reservations - Weekends are pretty much all booked. Our group of 8 got a couple nights in August but have to change lodging.

Was trying to book September but that was booked.

Crazy.

I was pleasantly surprised to get 2 lodge doubles on Memorial Day, I must have got in right before they filled up

  • 3 weeks later...

Going to be a bit of a heat wave today before possible snow Friday so going to meet up with some of the regular golf buddies, one I haven't seen since October to hit a few buckets and likely tip back a beer.   My new T100 irons are sure pretty to look at but have been a challenge figuring out how to hit them the 3 times I've swung them thus far.   Didn't think it would be such a difference between them and the MP-25.  I'll get there eventually.

Hit another bucket last night.   Anyone know of any courses open at all in SE Wisconsin in the near future?   Very little to no snow close to the lake but seemingly more the further west you go.

Grant Park near the MKE airport is lakeside and often open early.  Short at 5200 yards, but it is March.  I hear you are getting a pretty good rain day which might make anything a swamp.

I believe this weekend will be a washout and very sloppy out there.  Starting to really get the itch so looking out for next week.   The course I play most often might open by next weekend but they typically aren't the first to let people out.

Can't imagine anything open this weekend as it will be too cold.  Sunday maybe....but after next week things will start to open.  You might try Evergreen in Elkhorn as I understand they open when the snow is gone.  Don't know anything else about the course or how far of a drive it would be for you.  Looking like the 27th might be my first round of the year for me, 🤞that something reasonably close will be open by then!

Yeah I hope to find someplace this weekend to play outside at least one day.  Elkhorn is a bit of a haul for me to play in the cold.  Hoping to play somewhere in Kenosha County.

Kenosha County courses open today but looking doubtful that anyone will be allowed out or able to play this week.  I have the early tee times next weekend but looks like it will be really wet and maybe a chance of snow Saturday.    Hoping for more than the 5 rounds I got in before May last year with some craptastic spring weather.

Yeah, that swash of snow really brought the snow totals and the forecasters were off on where the biggest totals were going to be, etc.  Hopefully whatever snow is forecasted won't bring much accumulation as it's been a snowy March!  Played on Friday in FdL and it was pretty nice considering.  Not too wet for a spring round.  Hoping to get out later in the week.

I realize down here in the SE part of the state we have been spared much of the snow that many of the others on this forum got hit with.   Hopefully by late in the week there will be a window to at least walk 9.  Either way I am going to pull the trigger on my yearly pass.

There's no snow south of Rt. 132 in Lake Co. We have been spared during the past couple of storms. A number of courses announced they will be opening this week as well.
