I guess it will come down to a choice between Wild Rock and Washington County. Cant play both given our schedule. What is your opinion on that?

I would opt for Washington County, great muni course between wild rock and Washington County. If you don’t want to move your hotel in Ripon just head to mascoutin and I would recommend playing all 27 holes as it’s good variety and not that expensive. I do enjoy the woodlands course but a trip to lawsonia without the links is a waste in my opinion.

WR and EH designed by the same team but not sure there is much similarity🤔....I dunno as I've never played EH, but have WR many times,as well as WC.  They are both fabulous and IMO you can't go wrong with either.  WR is more scenic and spread out with some interesting topography, expansive views and then the quarry part is a bit of a change up on the  latter part of the course.  WC front you play around the outside and the back meander the inside.  You can see most of the course from the clubhouse which I think is pretty cool.  Both offer nice amounts of elevation change, with WR a few more blind shots that will come into play/challenge you. Both are quite playable off the tee, with some then tricky approach shots. 18 very good golf holes! I'd give the nod to WR for the overall experience , but they are right there next to each other/close.  If it makes a difference, ride only at WR.

Was able to get out yesterday at a local muni. Greens were shag, course was wet. But, DECEMBER GOLF!

First post in the Wisconsin golf thread.  Had to cancel my annual trip to Bandon next year because of some schedule conflicts and the place was booked solid so no option to re-schedule for 2024.  But, when life closes a door, it opens a window.  I have Sand Valley, Mammoth Dunes, the Lido, Erin Hills and Lawsonia scheduled for September 2024!  Super excited, had no idea that Wisconsin had such a dense cluster of amazing courses.

I have one additional full day where I have nothing scheduled....any insights on how difficult it is to get onto any of the Kohler courses as a single?

How the hell did you get on the Lido in September?? They told me it was booked solid..

Not sure. I'm a single, perhaps that helps.  The nice lady I was working with said that she had looked earlier when booking a different group and noted a single time so we worked everything around that.

I've been having some cabin fever of late and haven't played one round of virtual golf this winter.   Hadn't touched a club since late October so drove up to Range Time in Racine and hit about 75 balls.  That was about the right amount and hit mostly irons.   40 degrees isn't bad at all when they have the heat lamp over your stall.   Felt good to swing and felt it later in the day.   I know these mild temps aren't going to last forever so I may go again this week if I can find the time.

Saw on Facebook that Evergreen out in Elkhorn is opening for play this year tomorrow.   They might get some play for a week or so but I"m guessing the snow will be back later this month.

Saw a handful of players out at Spring Valley yesterday and with the weather looking mild next weekend I might get out and play a round.  I know we have a few guys on here that play out there semi-regularly at least so maybe there will be a first hand report of how things are out there.   Probably a little soggy but I saw carts out yesterday

Hi - are there any Wisconsin courses with real estate within the country club / gates - besides Geneva national?

The idea/concept of Geneva national is appealing - but the (1) real estate prices (relatively weak appreciation or a flat out price decline pre Covid) and (2) pace of play are major question marks that I’ve seen for GN.

thank you!

Not gated but lawsonia had lots on the golf course for sale.

the legend at bristlecone in Hartland. It’s really not a popular model in Wisconsin. Ironwood and fairways of woodside may qualify but they aren’t good courses and I’m not sure they were able to sell all the lots. You are better off looking for a house and club separately in Wisconsin. Lots of great courses that are core golf.

FYI for those of you in SE Wisconsin. I got a notice that Brighton Dale  White will be open Sunday and Monday this week and then from time to time weather depending moving forward.   First tee times aren't until 10.    I'm going to wait until earlier tee times open up in a few more weeks and just hit a bucket instead on Sunday.

I took a half day of vacation yesterday and went out to Brighton Dale for an afternoon round with some buddies.  I thought the course was in relatively decent shape for February.  I am guessing maybe they don't have their full grounds crew back so there are a lot of branches to pick up and I would like to see them clear cut or limb up a bunch of areas on the edges of the woods but those are pretty minor gripes.  I've tracked my stats for years and hadn't played a February round in Wisconsin since 2017.    Last round from 2023 was last weekend in October and only hit two buckets of balls in the off season so was pretty happy with the results (78)  after the layoff.

First time I've ever played in February, which was yesterday.  Tough conditions with a howling wind, but it was good clean fun!

Attached is a link to Wisconsin.Golf. It contains a pretty comprehensive list of course that are open and the opening dates for many others:

Well after a late February round I haven't been able to get out on a weekend since and Brighton Dale is closed again this weekend.  Not a huge deal, but really starting to get the itch to play.  Have early tee times booked out there for the next month but the chances of teeing off at 8am are pretty slim.   Maybe next week will work out better.

Because of the fluffy nature of it, seems like more than it really is.   jwhite86 is right on with with the 1.5 - 2 inches mark.   Supposed to be in the 50s with possible rain early next week so that should wipe it all out.

Well after getting out in early February there was hope I'd play a bit more this month but the weather on the weekends was either a bit too gnarly or the course was closed.  I have early tee times Fri- Sun this weekend so going to try to get out at least 2 of the 3 days.

Brighton Dale White and Blue courses are open and it relatively good shape.  Considering all the water they have had out there it wasn't unplayable.   Greens rolling pretty nicely.   I believe they are going to be spiking the greens on one of the courses end of this week according to the clubhouse guy.   Played Friday thru Sunday and hardly anyone out there.  Nice to get in some early rounds for once.
