2024 Macgregor Irons: MT Milled, MT Pro, MACSPD

Looks like they are out in the site already.  The MT-Pro seem to have some resemblances to Takomo 301 CB -enough to conclude that they are probably made from the same foundry.  Here are the similarities:

 

1. cavity break towards to muscle

2. milled horizontal lines

3.  straight line muscle

4.  heel to hosel transition

 

Nevertheless, there are substantial differences to conclude that though they may be made in the same foundry, they will play different.

 

Macgregor claims to be 1020 carbon steel - while most are 1025 - so Mac might be softer.

Visibly, the sole looks narrower on the Mac.

Based on the website photos, the address position shows the Macs have very little offset.

Virtually 100% chance these are open source designs from China.  Of course, that doesn’t mean they don’t play well.

Pretty subjective there. I think the iron's geometry has more effect on soft feel than the material being 1020 or not. 

 

callaway mizuno cobra uses 1025

 

srixon new level uses 1020

 

ping pxg uses 8620

I see Baldo from Japan. To be honest it would be pretty hard at this point to come up with a unique design that doesn't remind of another club from the past.

Here are some topline action pics of the new Macgregor MT Pro Milled, with comparison pics beside the MT-86 Pro. There are also toe-on pics of the 7-iron so you can see the bounce and sole shape. Here is what the pics reveal so far:

✅️MT Pro Milled is larger than MT-86 Pro
✅️MT Pro Milled has the least offset I have ever seen in a forged iron, and visibly less than that of MT-86 Pro
✅️MT Pro Milled has a straighter leading edge than the MT-86 Pro which is rounder.
✅️MT Pro Milled has a pre-worn sole grind towards the leading edge in all irons. My photo of the gap wedge illustrates this
✅️For all comparison pics, MT Pro Milled is the one on the right while MT-86 Pro is the one with the shorter hosel
✅️I removed the paintfilll on the face grooves of the MT Pro Milled, thus, it might not look like other pics from other reviews in the Internet
✅️I assembled it with a long hosel with gold rings to make it look like classic Macgregor, so I did not use the ferrules supplied by the manufacturer.

 

All I can say is that I am totally loving the lack of offset so far!

You are not kidding. Those things look like they have literally ZERO offset.  Wow.  Wonder what the MT Milleds are like.

I think the 201s and MT Milled are about the same.

 

The 301 have almost no offset from their specs. Looks like maybe a hair more than the MT Pros.

Not so nice looking. The ones they made during the last comeback were beautifully made. Maybe by whoever made the Bridgestone irons back then.

@jick how is the offset (or lack thereof) on the longer irons? Also did you note down head weight before building them up? The option to buy heads only is something I wish more companies did.

These are the headweights of my iron heads.  These are my actual weights - they are within +-1 of the weights on the sticker that was in the head.
