General opinion is that the 6.0 plays closer to an S400, 5.5 closer to a S300. I'm not 100% sold on the charts you see floating around here about SS relating to what flex to play. I know thats a bit of an obvious statement but so much more comes into play when you're picking a shaft. I demoed a few clubs with PX6.0 after playing with Rifle 5.5's for years, and it's pretty safe to say I had much better results with the PX 6.0's. Higher, slightly longer and much tighter dispersion. To tell you the truth, I still think my 5.5's feel a bit stiffer, but then again, the clubs were custom made for someone else when I bought them 8 years ago, so they could be hard stepped or something. :D

Now if I could only get some $$ and buy a set of Pro Combo Tour heads.. mmm.. PX 6.0's + Nike PC Tours = cha-ching! ;)

Don't know if it makes any sense, but at some point I have played Rifle 6.0 and they felt a tad stiffer than DGS 300.

On the other hand, odd as it may sound, Rifle Flighted 6.0 feel softer. Local pro to whom I asked if I am dreaming or what says it does make sense and would have to do with how variable

flexpoint can change feel.

Nevermind, I do prefer the Rifle Flighted to the DGS. Less harsh, feel is softer and so incredibly sweet. I only regret not having known them earlier.

well px are way diff. that reg. rifles....

The flexes aren't. The PX's had a really bad batch that were really inconsistent but as far as the flexes go they are the same. I'm not going to get into the whole bad batch thing, you can search it if you want it was all over the place at one time.

Oh and here's the chart if anyone is interested...

S300's are nice.

People have been leaning towards Rifle's lately but only because they look better and have a catchier name. Now I'm not saying that the S300's are better than a 6.0 for example, but I am saying that they are very consistent and solid.

KBS >S300 = Rifle 5.5/6.0

(Graffaloy BLUE is the best graphite shaft of all time - anybody that disagrees is wrong)

I have switched back and forth from x100 and S300 for the last 6 or 7 years

Is it just be or do the Rifle 6.0 feel much better and explosive at impact than S300. I just got another set of 690mb irons except this set has S300 shafts and they feel dead at impact and the long irons don't go as far as compared to my set with 6.0 I'm guessing the flex point is a lot different????

Rifle has a lower bend point, the tip is more active, compared to Dynamic Gold.

Ok, I played S300s when I started playing golf for about 8 years, then I got a set of TM 300 Forged that had the Rifle 6.0 shafts, they felt stiffer/harsh but the dispersion was incredibly better, once used to them I thought I would never change, then I reshafted them with PX 7.0 (got a bit better at the game) and they felt about the same just a bit smoother, gained much control and accuracy, did not lose any distance, so in my opinion the S300s are better feeling and the "Rifles" are more accurate (to me), the PXs feel heavier but smoother transition...all that being said I now play the C Tapers 130X on Callaway TA Protos (since 2011) and hands down the best combination for me...

was playing s400s in 710mbs for 4 years and switched to PX 6.0 in apex pro 2016s and the PX 6 felt way stiffer, harsher and my ball flight was much lower. Mishits almost hurt and i was coming from blades. The outer coating on the 7 iron shaft also started chipping and peeling off after 5 days and one round so I just returned the entire set for z745s in s300. My old strong high ball flight is back. In my experience s300 would be closer to PX 5.5 or maybe PX 6 flighted would've worked better for me. The apex pro 2016 also seemed like a very unforgiving club, less so than my 710mbs. I think Callaway tried too hard to make a real players iron similar to the x forged 13 that the tour pros would embrace.

Just a reminder...

PX is not the same as the original Rifle. PX is stiffer for one thing.

Good thread. I have been toying around with building my own set of irons for the first time and would be buying components from the BST forum. I would like to try more of a players style forged head (Srixon or Mizuno) and would like a bit softer shaft in order to get the distance I need. Currently playing the DGS 300 and like them a lot. Would probably need to go for Px 5.0 in that case as 5.5 are a bit stiffer than the S300?

A softer shaft won't add distance unless you have launch angle problems hitting the ball too low. And yes, PX 5.5 is a little stiffer than DG S300, other than in the tip section where DG is stiffer and launch lower.

So the 5.5 is stiffer but will launch a touch higher, and the S300 will feel a bit softer but launch lower. Thanks for the help. I like the S300's quite a lot so I suppose I should not fix what is not broken.

I am a Brunswick fan and have 3 sets with them.I also have owned several S300 sets. I find that S300' tend to balloon. They launch lower but the apex is higher. Rifles tend to have a flatter trajectory, launch faster but flatten out.

As far as FCM vs Flighted (in 6.0, do not use PX), flighted feels a tiny bit softer due to what others have said about differing kick points of each iron. I also have Precision stepped (6.5) which are really nice stout shafts that I will never part with.

I am currently playing older Hogans with the Apex 4 shaft. Apex shafts were made by Brunswick. Great shaft, a good blend between Rifles and S300. Some say it's a Dyna Lite in disguise, it's really not. DL are just lighter and they apex higher than both., Apex has a softer tip than DG while not giving up any accuracy.
