Cypresswood in Houston...Gone

After the recent and severe flooding throughout the Houston area word on the street is that Cypresswood Golf Course is closing permanently.

Home of the PGA Shell Houston Open Monday Qualifier and numerous College tournaments will be greatly missed by all.

My information came from 3 employees at the course after they had a meeting with the ownership group. They were told it would not reopen and to seek employment elsewhere. As far as Bandit, I got that info as well. It did come in a few days before the meeting the employees had with ownership. Could be a change of plans.

Does this include Cypress AND Traditions courses? That would certainly be a shame.

I was a big fan of the Creek course back in the day..before they closed it up for the same reasons.

It would be an utter disaster if they failed to reopen, at a minimum, the Traditions course. This Keith Foster gem is one of the best tracks in Texas, bar none.

I will be very happy if they reopen! But still perplexed by the casino night fundraisers.

People are likely out of work. I'm sure the greens keepers and people like that are not working. I assume the fundraisers is just to help them out.

A lot of businesses are not reopening in Houston. There will be lots of people looking for work.

The golf club is closed indefinitely, not permanently. There’s a HUGE difference. There was over 6ft of water in the Club house. The casino nights were designed to benefit the employees that were affected by the hurricane. There were numerous employees who lost everything in the storm. There were also many employees who were let go due to the operation being suspended. I spoke with the ownership last week and there are no plans to close the course permanently. The ownership of the club have been meeting with insurance companies and other agencies in hopes of reopening ASAP. Anyone that has told you that golf course is closed for good has NO IDEA what they are talking about. If you want to ask questions about the status you can [email protected] to get an update.

I played it about a week ago. The tradition course is the only course open and it’s in great shape. The greens are phenomenal. Glad to see it’s back

Played it today and it was in good shape. Some places should probably be ground under repair as some of the grass hasn’t totally grown in yet.

Traveling to Houston this week for work, and I came straight from the airport to play Tradition today. It was in great shape, and to be honest, had I not read this thread looking for recommendations in Houston, I wouldn't have thought it had been affected by Harvey...sure, there are some rougher areas between holes, but they've done a great job on the holes themselves. I would certainly come back.

The golf course took a massive hit from Harvey. Clubhouse had over 8 feet of water in it. Very happy to see the club back open

Played Tradition a couple days ago, amazed what they have done to get it back in such awesome condition. Greens were lightly verticut the day before we played but it wasn't that noticeable. The only big change was the waste bunker on 14 taken out of play unless you REALLY miss to the right. Can't wait to get back out there.
