MD/DC/VA Golfers - This One Goes to Eleven

Going to hit Total Wine before the rain starts and see what they have on tap.

 

Things I wish I had known a couple hours ago - growler station is only open Fri and Sat. Fabulous.

 

Picked up some Ballast Point Grunion, Cigar City Florida Cracker and the new Sam 76. There were (approximately) 400 people in line at 10a.

Wanted to talk about one of the courses I played in Florida. Place was called Lakewood National. This place is new an was on par with Streamsong. The conditions could not have been better at this place. Not a blade of grass was anything but excellent. Played the Arnold tees at 6791 - 72.6 - 134. All the water was on the left for the first 9 holes and on the right for the back 9

#1 par 5 - 529 Huge fairway uphill - fairway wood down hill to a huge green two putt par

# 3 par 4 - 449 I could not reach this one in two because the wind was in our face

#4 par 3 plate said 178 playing 193 over water

#7 par 5 played 569 and definitely a 3 shot hole

#9 par 4 434 down wind with an elevated two tier green

#10 par 4 played 424 into the wind. Only fairway I missed all day Green was a two tier with water on the right that was in play. If you bailed left trying to be safe you pretty screwed. The slope was high on the left an dropped about 4' down to the lower portion of the green and then into the water if your not careful.

#11 par 4 - 455 just long and an elevated green

#12 par 3 played 221 over water(not really in play) woods on the left and a bunker running the length from where water stopped to the backside of the green on the right. Just a brutal green, was also elevated and very undulating.

#16 par 3 card said 129 but played 144 All I can say is don't be above this cup

#18 par 5 - 559 Long hole with water running the length of the hole on the right. Uphill tee shot. This was a beautiful and tuff closing hole that required a pin point wedge or shot iron to stay on the green if the flag was a right placement.

 

If you get the chance play this place it is just outside of Sarasota. $70 and a great unheard of place. They have not built the clubhouse(6 months away) yet so there was no food or beer available. These were the biggest greens I have ever seen. Most were 50 yds by 50 yds. I used my laser on a couple of greens that were 70 and 80 yds deep.

Why would you post an aerial of that hole? That doesn't capture the great view of the monument you get.

Thats basically how I look at it, 12 bucks for another year of Golf Magazine I always hope for a steal, but haven't been able to find one yet.

I mean honestly, if you're not into architecture, basically the first hole at Doral is going to be more well known than that hole.

 

But you see pictures and paintings of it. It's a cool hole. Like 235 carry over the ocean, but there's a fairway left to lay up into.

 

It's a little too gimmicky for me, but the tee boxes are nice.

But you see pictures and paintings of it. It's a cool hole. Like 235 carry over the ocean, but there's a fairway left to lay up into.

i guess i got fooled by the post thinking that was a hole on some EPP course in the DC area nd was licking my chops to play it lol. Yup. Cypress Point. I worship that whole Monterrey Peninsula...one of the most naturally . beautiful places in the US. Appreciate the respone

Went out to turf yesterday. Played nine but at every green I stopped and hit about twenty chip shots at each green. I mostly played shots with SW and 9 iron from the fairway in front of greens to see which was better. I end up there a good bit when I drive it sideways. Answer is ... I don't know. I have never spent much time with the nine iron thing though. I'm going to pursue thaT a bit. Gotta deal with the slopes on the edges of the greens better this year. It'll also be interesting to see if it is as viable when the greens speed up
