Royal irons?

So I looked and couldn't find this particular model. Scored these 2-pw blades, they are beautiful, awesome hosel detail. No shaft pins, but no details on the shafts either, I'm assuming aluminum? Grips are awesome too, they are ribbed, but placed so the rib faces the target, fitting my strong grip pretty perfect to the point that I use the 6 iron for yard/mirror practice.

 

Any info? No plans to game them just would like the history

But if yours have aluminum shafts, I would think they are from the late Sixties to early Seventies.

I remember playing Royal balls in the 70s, hexagonal dimples. Great balls. The link had the ball dimple shape stamped on it.

Royal being Uniroyal the tyre manufacturer? The Uniroyal Plus 6 was their hexagonal dimpled ball and very good it was.

Now I never saw any Royal blades. I do remember my old man sold the Royal Plus 6 and Daisy cast irons in his shop. The shafts were hexagonal shaped like the dimples on the ball and slid over the hosel like some Ping and SC putters do. I know that the only place you could get a replacement shaft was from Royal and those were expensive. The only reason the old man sold those clubs was because the Royal Plus 6 ball with the hexagonal dimples was the hot ticket at the time. But Uniroyal (yes the tire company) would not let you sell the balls unless you hawked the clubs too. I got to agree with elwhippy those were one hot ball back in the day when they first came out. They were standard sized here in the USA and were longer than the smaller British balls like the Titleist , Spalding Dot and Penfold. They would also out spin any balata Titleist or Dunlop too. They were also Balata.

I'll never forget when a driving range I used to frequent back in the 1970s got a brand new supply of Royal Plus 6 range balls. As you said, that ball was really hot at the time, and It was such a big deal that they actually ran commercials advertising those range balls on the leading AM radio station in the city. The problem was, those balls lasted no time as people would buy a large bucket and take a couple of dozen of them home with them. I would find those range balls on courses all over the area.

I've found one Royal Plus 6 in a bag of practice balls I got in the 80's

The Uniroyal Jack Nicklaus golf ball seems to have been released in 1968, at least that is when this ad is from. Ball manufactured in Scotland, and supposedly Jack played it. Perhaps it was one of those Europe only deals.

Are aluminum shafts .370 or larger? I want to pull a shaft and try a modern steel shaft, these irons just look so good at address

I recall most were .395".

Parallel .370" with a shim should work well.
