When all is said and done, you don't get the same and if you do, you really saving peanuts.

Just stay with cable.

Plus, you get to watch Predator every day ; )

ChiefZigzagCoot-size_restricted.gif

Saving $1K/yr by dropping comcast and no longer paying $40+ in fees and taxes from them. To each their own, but I couldn't stand being tied to a contract and paying rental fees on top of bogus broadcast fees, etc.

Ok, so what do you get?

You say you save 1k/year.

But then you say you save 40$ (per month, I assume)

Far as I see, if you want espn, golf, **hbo, internet and cable news, history etc.

You can get all that and save 90/month?

Yep, was paying $175/mo. for cable and internet with comcast. Package was $129 but was paying $45 for DVR box rentals, TV fees, taxes, etc...basically all the hidden bs. Worked with Comcast for internet only 150mbps for $49.99/month and YouTube TV for $40/month. So was at $175/month and now at $90/month. $1K savings per year and not tied to any contracts, and most of all I am free to do whatever I want. In my book, those are some big peanuts of savings.

Envious of your Comcast deal. Their website says what you got, but when we did the deed it was $100/month because of where we live. A friend three blocks away has Fios, but we can’t get it so Comcast charges us twice as much because they can.

I pay about $50 a month for 3 tvs with every channel available using GearsTV and Mayfair Guides. Really the only consequence of cutting the cord is the lack of a DVR. I am sure there is software available that could remedy that issue, but it hasn't been a problem so I haven't cared.

Cut the cord 2 weeks ago. I have Hulu Live and it seems to be working fine - do have occasional buffering which I'm still troubleshooting.

I had it, too. Never stopped being glitchy, freezing, kicking me off. You might give Sling or one of the others a try, you get seven days free, see if it’s better.

Only a few providers that offer the "Golf Channel" in their basic package. Didn't like Yahoo because of no menu/guide.

I didn’t know any of them did. It’s part of the sports package with both Hulu and Sling, works out to about $40/month however you slice it if you want Golf Channel — a bit more with hulu, a bit less with Sling. At least where I live. Whatever it is, the less competition there is the more you pay.

This is true. Spectrum cable rocks and never goes down. Combine Spectrum with TiVo and you have the best solution possible.

Oh, and NO contract. So high speed, all channels, never goes down and total flexibility. It doesn't get any better than that.

Sling Blue plus Sports. At least in my market. Same with Hulu. Seems to be a pretty level $40-ish across the board; my only criterium getting rid of cable was Golf Channel.

I just checked into Gears TV and I'm impressed. It offers an amazing amount of content for $25/month (less if you prepay), also free PPV events. I wonder what the catch is.......

This is the catch, you need a subscription for each TV in the house if you intend to watch simultaneously. I have 3 TV's in my household, so I pay around $50 a month using Mayfair Guides with it which I highly recommend.

are you hardwired with ethernet or is it on wifi? YTTV has the golf channel. watched the final round yesterday, then moved over to the NBC channel to finish. watched the Super Bowl on YTTV with no issues.

Using WiFi via Roku devices on 2 TVs. I believe my next step is to upgrade my modem which I can do for 40 bucks.

WiFi works fine with the TV/Roku upstairs, but wasn’t cutting it downstairs in my cave, so I got one of those things that uses your house wiring for ethernet.

I may go that route too if my new/old modem doesn't work this week - haven't ruled out Hulu being the culprit, read complaints about their service but I'll keep troubleshooting.

Hooked up new modem but Hulu still buffering. Doing a 7 day trial with Sling Blue at the moment with no buffer issues. I'll try a couple more services as well.

Ya, my first cord cutting venture was with Hulu and I quickly realized it had issues. Audio out of sync, constant pixeling, fps issues with cbs and NBC. They have work to do to clean up their service. YTTV and Sling sling have been great.

Hulu has really gone downhill in terms of quality, I basically only keep them because of the Handmaid's Tale and the service is basically free due to my work.

Switched to Spectrum from Fios purely because they have a Samsung Smart TV app to avoid paying all the extra set top box rental fees. Not to mention the FIOS app limits the channels you can watch on your phone or ipad as it can only be viewed on the set top box.

a good combo would be YouTube TV and Philo. my wife likes watching the first 48 but there's no A&E on YTTV. for $16 a month for Philo - it's a common combo with YTTV subscribers.

Are you hardwiring Hulu or using wifi?

Initially, when I got Netfllix, I wifi'ed it, but encountered the buffering. Not that it is hardwired into my Firestick, which is hardwired into the modem, the only time I lose connectivity is when the cable goes down - which, with Spectrum/Time Warner (don't get me started) is about 6-8 times/day. Yet, when it goes down (actually IF it goes down) with the technician here, they say they will look into it, but nothing gets resolved. Resets the DVR 2-3 times a day as well, causing my wife to miss her soap operas

Me - I don't watch as much TV. If it were up to me, I'd have the highest speed internet alone, run whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted, right thru the laptop and chromecast it whatever I have hooked up to chromecast.

But, that's just me...

going to be running ethernet from our 3rd bedroom where the modem/router is into all rooms and living area to have that ability. get an ethernet switch if you have multiple devices in one area (smart tv, streaming device, game console, ect).

off topic - why is this in tour talk?
