ben hogan ft worth black irons

Recommended Posts

This is a review for better players who want to game these irons. These are the best irons I've hit for shotmaking. The sole and head design allows you to add active loft very easily - people have been posting that these tend to go higher and I believe that's why. The v sole helps with bounce on the ground and prevents digging in on the delofted punch shots.

I wish BH sold these as heads only. Their extra long ferrules and grips will change the stiffness profile of shafts - but they look nice. Check the hosel insertion depths - I had to manually adjust mine to get them consistent. That being said, every other company will have similar performance problems or worse and bang on 500 bucks more.

So I keep coming back to looking at these bad boys, can anyone compare these to the 718 cb’s?

I used to play the gunmetal macgregor pro cm and foolishly got rid of them, but the grind on these look very similar to my cb’s and I love the black. Anyone done the paint fill yet?

I would say they play very similar to the 716 cbs (haven't hit 718s). In my eyes that is a far better comparison than Ft. Worths vs other blades on the market. They play like a players CB and if anything I would even say they are slightly more forgiving then the CBs.

A fellow wrxer gave mine a nice a makeover. I haven't gotten them back yet but this is a "rough draft" as we were deciding what to do with them. Number will be gloss black too. The second picture is no paintfill at all. I'll post more when I get them back.

I've been bouncing back and forth between these and some SL irons. Just picked up the equalizer black wedge special and may commit to the Hogans for next season.

I came REALLY close to getting a set on the Black Friday $70 off sale.

I thought I might play a mixed set. PTx 4,5,6 and 7,8,9 in the Ft. Worth blacks.

I just couldn’t pull the trigger. My PTx have treated me very well for 2 1/2 years now.

My iron game has been very good. I don’t think I want to mess with the mojo.

Anyone hit the adams XTD A tours and can compare in terms of forgiveness? Keep in mind these aren't the big clunky cross cavity black ones but rather the ones Ernie Els used for a brief stint

Very similar to the 718 cbs. But they feel a little sharper, and definitely look better

The Hogan’s feel sharper? Can you elaborate a bit on that?

Not trying to answer for him but I felt like I understood what he was saying when he posted. I interpreted it as a little firmer/livelier off the face. Not quite miura firm but definitely not marshmellow soft. That's how they feel to me anyway and I like it. To me srixons and some others out there are too soft to the point of being vague feeling.
