YES. Restrictions on ball technology (as well as club tech) need to be enforced. ALL other ball sports have standards for the ball so as to preserve the integrity of the game on the field designed for its play; it needs to be dialed back.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again.

You still have to putt and have a sick short game to win on tour.  Period.   That is the equalizer and I see plenty of guys miss important putts (happened today several times…).

Most PGA Tour events, as I see it, come down to three contests:

- putting contest

- mental/confidence/decision making contest

- driving accuracy/setting up opportunities.

you can be bombing the boom stick but if your putting sucks… not gonna win.

headspace all out of what?  Probably not going to win.

Missing fairways all day?  Probably not going to win.

Good putting solves a lot of other problems in terms of winning - tee shots make people want to watch and sell equipment for sponsors.

So, I’m fine with player’s continuing to send it as far as possible - longest isn’t always the winner.

Most of today's modern golfers are real athletes who spend a lot of time in the gym.  The game has gotten longer not only due to tech but also bigger stronger guys who can knock it put there with 170-185 mph ball speeds.

No offense to some of greats of yesteryear with weak fields but today's international fields play a whole different game.

100% agree, but you can’t sell lessons, balls, and clubs like that. 🤣

The PGA Tour isn’t in the business of “selling” course architecture or mental challenges as to how the course is designed. While I agree with your sentiments, that’s just simply not the Tours business strategy at all.

No doubt.  But perhaps they should have some obligation to ensuring there is a challenge in those realms.

I get they don't.  And, as they are run/for/beholden to the players, I understand why they don't.

I just think it is kind of a shame that it takes "a major" to be the reason we see these guys challenged mentally by the architecture in most cases.  Even more of a shame that the rare cases where they are challenged, it is most often on a course approaching 100 years old.
