Patrick Reed's custom Cameron Ryder Cup/Captain America putter

Why is his white hot pro #3 so hard to find? Did they not release that model to the public? Seems like it sits super nice at address and I love the top line

I believe that particular model was released in Japan ( i could be wrong). There is nothing special about it, just the standard white hot putter. Price will come down in the spring ;)

It was definitely a normal U.S. release with the rest of the White Hot Pro line. I had one for awhile that I bought new at Golfsmith. It may have been released in smaller numbers than the more popular shapes (#1, #7).

Believe he's still using the WH Pro #3 this week, at least from photos I've seen. Sweet looking putter though.

Correct it's the putter he used in the last Ryder Cup. He's not switching to this Cameron.

Greg

So, Reed uses an Odyssey #3, and will continue using that putter during the Ryder Cup this year? So, this seems to beg the question: why would SC bother making this putter for him? What am I missing?

Greg would know best but I think he's used a Bettinardi at one point this year. Maybe he wasn't totally set on the Odyssey. Shoot your shot if you're Cameron. Maybe he liked it enough and bumps the Odyssey. Worst that happens is he tries it and doesn't use it. Nothing wrong with trying.

The putter companies are always hoping to make a putter that any player likes the looks of and will put it in play. I’m sure this putter was made more as a gift/example of what Scotty can/will do to get Patrick comfortable enough to make the switch. I’m sure Scotty was aware this putter wasn’t going in the bag for the Ryder Cup but wasn’t thinking short term but more so long term. There will be other Cameron’s made and who knows just might get out in the bag. Inserts don’t last for ever!

Stricker is on at least his 3 or 4th backup. And I think he's less finicky about the look of his putter as long as the feel off the insert is the same. Patrick likes a certain look for his top line and that is what has delayed any changes.

I think this is the case. I'm pretty sure I remember seeing it, but not in the same quantities as the #1, #7 ,V-Line,etc. I know they bring a pretty penny on eBay these days if you find one.

It has to be more then just the looks because any company on the planet can make an exact replica of the #3. The white hot insert is legend on tour and creates the perfect balance between sound, feel, and distance control for many players.

Tell that to Tiger. Guarantee you the looks of the Cameron has a lot to do with his confidence.

If i asked Tiger he would tell me its a combination of looks, feel/sound, speed control.

And yet none of the other OEM's have been able to find that feel/sound & looks that Tiger has in his Cameron. That's why he keeps going back. It's one thing to be able to copy/duplicate the basic shape of a putter but that doesn't mean it will have those intangibles.

I'll ask Tiger about the confidence that the look of his Cameron gives him & I'll post what he says here. As for Reed, I was there a few times when he's talked with the various putter Reps about why a particular putter wasn't just right and it started with looks (mainly the top line). I watched him roll this latest Cameron and he said the feel/roll of the putter was good but the top line was too wide.

It must kind of suck to be the folks that made that putter. All that effort (however much it was) for a couple of rolls on the practice green, then off to who knows where.

I wish I could get the strength to root for Reed in his matches this week

And what are your thoughts on that now that it’s all said and done with Reed’s post match comments?
