They look really good, next time I'm in Edwin Watts I'll take a picture. My Honma TW737 445 held up really well against the F9 & ST190. I was getting similar carry distances with about 5 mph less ball speed with a perfect launch and spin for my swing speed.

I got mine and I agree it looks really good in person. It frames the ball quite well and reminds me of Z565 drivers from Srixon.

BTW my driver head says made in SAKATA

Is that true ?

The only mention of Sakata that I've seen is on the shafts (of the driver demos).

PGATSS just got their first allotment of about a dozen drivers - I'll have to take a look at them.

But yes, excellent drivers. Low spin and very forgiving and, just as advertised, the 455 is slightly less forgiving and slightly lower spin - but not by a whole lot. JR uses the 460 I believe.

I'm relatively sure my next driver will either be an Epic Flash Sub Zero or a Honma 747 (probably the 460).

Bottom line is they're both terrific drivers for me. Up to 9 yards more carry over my Fusion on BEST hits, 12 yards more carry on sweetspot hits (just not totally flush) and about 5 more on mishits. I also find the (pure) sweetspot a bit more often with both of these over my Fusion.

The shaft - I made a big deal about the Hzrdus Yellow 76 gram 6.5 which should be way too stiff for me. It played at 44.75 and felt pretty light and I found the center time and time again with it.

I currently have a demo of the same club from a different store but the Yellow demo I have (same specs) is full length (about 45.5) and clearly feels heavier and stouter than the previous one. Very different feel. Great fodder for those who say "Buy the demo, don't order one" LOL

The Honma wins the dispersion and consistency battle for me right now but I do have to give several other shafts a valid testing with the EFSZ.

The stock Vizard 747 shaft ("60 S") is excellent. Low spin and very controllable. No sign of the other 2 shafts yet for the Honma, the FP(?) and the FD(?).

Any questions, feel free.

There is indeed glued models but I haven't seen them turn up for sale yet. Maybe they're reserved for Asian tour players. Since my local shop didn't know if the upgraded shafts would be available here in the US, I looked for an opportunity to get one directly from Japan.

The FD-6s is a great shaft and IMO, way better than the stock shaft. High, flat, low spin bombs. I didn't realize it but the FP-6s shaft would be a better fit for me as it is a lower launch/spin shaft. Need to get one of those in a 455 head when I get the chance.

The stock shafts work very well for me.

I've read about those 2 shafts though and the sound pretty good.

But 2 of 'em ? :D

Just saw the Honma drivers for sale at my local store and none of them have Made in Japan Sakata on the hosel. What’s the deal? One of the guys working there was trying to tell me it’s because they are shipped separately then assembled here. Seems rather strange they’d need to have a separate head without the MIJS on there. Makes me think the heads are shipped separately from China. I know this is speculation but why would Honma risk any confusion like the TW737 line?

Doing a quick Google search looks like some retailers offer with the vizard 6 and some with the vizard 5. it's like going back 10 or more years when there was only one shaft option and a made for. Not suggesting the vizard shaft is equivalent to a made for, but this is just downright stupid. Do they think the demand will be so high that they can do it this way? I'm out due to the high price, but any interest is out the door with only one shaft option.

I understand your reasoning but the Honma is $599. That's "only" $50 more than the M5 and $70 more than the Epic Flash. Not enough difference (for me anyway) to disqualify it from consideration.

As for the shaft, the "5" is just a different weight class from the "6". I personally find the shaft very controllable and it's definitely a low spin combo (either head). Of course no one shaft is for everybody. But there are a couple of other Honma shafts as well. And "FD" and an "FP". Haven't seen them in the store though.

To each his own. ;)

I've looked at the vizard shafts on the Honma site, lots of offerings and different weight options for most all shafts. I was impressed with the fact they had heavier options for wood shafts. Hence my disappointment to see none of them as a stock option. IMO a low to mid 50g shaft fits very few golfers. I hope they do well so as to someday the retailers will offer more than one stock shaft.

These 747 models have only been in the stores for about 5 weeks or so. I suspect Honma is just ramping up their USA presence.

I expect we will see at least the FD and FP shafts sometime soon. Already have seen them on eBay.

Got my 455 with the FP-6s shaft from Japan.  Now to figure out which is best for me.

Excellent.

Did you order direct (from Japan) ?

I see the "Made in Sakata" on the hosel of the head. NONE of the heads at the PGATSS by me have that on them.

> Man, I can't figure out which models is better for me and I can't afford to keep both! I actually like the forgiveness of the 460 head but I uncorked some really long drives with the 455 this past weekend. Been down some fairways I've never hit approach shots from on my regular course.

I've hit them over at least 5 "sessions" now and I find they ARE really close and I find the descriptions I've seen of them are spot on.

I DO prefer the shape of the ever-so-slightly smaller 455 head and the shape is more pleasing to my eye but that weight being on the toe side "scares" me. That said, from what I've read, that toe weight helps ball speed on toe hits. As opposed to, or in addition to, causing a little fade bias ? Or mitigating hooks which tend to plague the better players ?

The 460 is slightly more forgiving, slightly (more ?) draw bias, launches slightly higher and spins slightly more - big accent on "slightly" LOL

Good luck !!!
