2019 European Tour Schedule

^^ The players that like to play the week before a major might be likely to do the 3 week stretch - Scottish, The Open and WGC so could mean a slightly weaker field for the Irish. Of course some guys do longer stretches, difficult to know if it will be effected.

Would have seemed like a good idea to have the Italian Open either before or after the BMW PGA so there was back to back Rolex events, it was good having it directly after Wentworth this year but it seems a little stranded in the schedule next year.

It'll be interesting to see who plays where with this new schedule.

The British Masters used to be played the week before the US Open back in the day.

Greg Norman, Lee Trevino and Seve Ballesteros were the three winners, but none won the next week.

The USGA had been using the Monday after Wentworth for their European qualifier. I don't think they will be able to do it the day after the British Masters. The Monday after the Belgian Knockout could be the spot.

I think your right about the Irish possibly having a weaker field. I think that is also part of the reason why Rory wanted to switch with the Scottish this year, to try get some more of the big names that he knew might not want to do a 4 week stretch.

Glad to see the british masters back on the schedule, hopefully its not just for 1 year.

Biggest changes in schedules for EU as well as PGA in a long time.

Eu is very weak in the spring, I don't know if I will pay for Tv March-May. Only Masters and British Masters looks interesting. August very weak, then a lot of seeworthy tournaments from mid sep to nov. Is the general Idea to have the big tournaments in clusters to attract us based players to come over for longer periods? Both italian, French and Wentworth very late in the year. Both Wentworth and Le Golf will probably feel the sting of autumn temperatures.

Isn't Memphis ridiculously hot in late July? Can't imagine the course compares to the great Lahinch either, but unfortunately money talks.

British Masters in May at Hillside.

Excellent and surprising news, it didn't look good at all for the event. Again another fantastic venue to look forward to. I'd be interested to know where the funding is coming from, no title sponsor and as great a guy as he is I doubt Tommy Fleetwood is personally underwriting the whole event.

My initial reaction to the schedule is the Made In Denmark, Open de Espana and Open de France may suffer with the date changes.

Made In Denmark isn't attracting the top players anyways, so I don't think it will suffer that much. The prize is doubled though, and the event will be back in Himmerland

Absolutely gutted for the French Open being "demoted" as it is one of the best events of the year.

Same as Wales Open and Gleneagles unfortunately.

True. I do miss some of the old events. Remember watching Cabrera at Loch Lomond one year, absolutely striping the ball every shot. Lovely with fans too. The smells and scenery can't be replicated on true links.

Money talks I suppose. Very strange decision for me given how good a turnout and tournaments we have seen at recent French Opens.

I can see the sense in moving the French Open. Clearly the Tour wants to feed into the run up to The Open by playing the Irish, the Scottish and then The Open on links course and with the Irish and Scottish being Rolex Series events, I must admit that this year it felt a little too much having the 3 Rolex events and then The Open week after week after week after week. So spreading the Rolex events out a little more makes perfect sense.

Demoting the French from being a Rolex event though is pretty ridiculous for me.

Clearly, the French is a much more prestigious event than the Italian Open. Seems that the only reason that Italian is a Rolex event as opposed to French is that that the French Ryder Cup is now done and we are still waiting for the Italian. Pretty poor from the Tour in my opinion but I guess it is par for the course when you consider the disappearance of the Wales Open at Celtic Manor and the Johnnie Walker at Gleneagles after they had had their Ryder Cups.

Moving the GolfSixes to Portugal is an interesting one as well but with it being the week before the US Open when no top players will want to play confirms it for the gimmick that it is.

Valderrama and Le Golf playing dates seems to have been swapped, would be logical to swap them back. And why Wentworth so late in the year?

It would seem that Wentworth late in the year is to try and attract the big names after the big summer and after the PGA tour season has finished. It could also be a way to try and get more big names to the Dunhill Links. Two weeks in the UK from a travel point of view would be appealing to some, the likes of Rory who has played both events in recent years but also has missed both. He might be tempted to say well that's two easy events to get in and get my minimum number in, he could effectively play Abu Dhabi, Omega, Irish, BMW, Dunhill and he has his minimum number without much extra travel and can focus on the PGA tour the rest of the year.
