What's your best or most memorable round ever?

Before I provide my memorable golf rounds, I'd like to give some context to how I got to this point in my golf journey.

I've been playing since I was a kid in the 1980s but stopped playing in the late 1990s. Played a few times, mostly once or twice a year about five years ago.

Got bitten by the Golf bug again in 2021 when the COVID pandemic hit and I've been playing regularly (average of once a week) for less than 3 years after coming back from not playing regularly for over 25 years as a senior golfer (52 yrs. old).

I was also diagnosed with kidney cancer in 2020 but thankfully I've successfully won that battle.

In a span of less than 3 years, I've been fortunate to have had more than a few memorable golf moments that still seems like a dream to me and has definitely balanced out more than a couple of significant life challenges that I've weathered.

I've also been keeping track of my golf activities including personal records in an ongoing journal as a way of balancing out the frustrations as we all know that golf is a fickle and difficult sport so it matters a lot to remember all the few good moments we make to lessen the blows on our sanity of the mistakes we make as we continue to play.

Please note that for my memorable round # 1, the most important takeaway for me is to never give up no matter how bad your last shot was, whether it is a shank (I've made a lot and I accept the fact that I will make more than a few more, driving hooks or pulled iron shots or pushed 3 foot putts) because there will always be a chance to redeem yourself.

Here are my memorable rounds in order of importance:

MEMORABLE ROUND #1: 2022 Bethpage Red tournament: 83 (+13); Best score of the season / Best tournament career score (PERSONAL RECORDS)

    Front nine: 42 (+7)

    Back nine: 41 (+6)

Place: 1 / CHAMPION

Division: 4

Prize money: $222

NOTE: Won via play-off and USGA count-back.

Via Play-off (Hole # 1) was a tie with Bogey score; Hole # 2 cancelled after first shot due to darkness; Won USGA countback via back 9 score card. Tournament points and cash prize halved according to league ruling. My win was clinched from the last 3 holes (Personal Record) USGA countback - see blow-by-blow details below.

1.) Hole # 16: Scrambling Par (5) on Par 5: Drive landed on the 1st cut of rough on the left side of the fairway; 2nd shot landed 58 yards from the hole, pin high on the right side rough; Almost lost my ball but I was fortunate that my playing partner (GN) found it; 3rd shot from the rough landed on the green, 20+ feet downhill Birdie putt was short about 4+ feet from hole; Made 2nd putt with no break for Par.

2.) Hole # 17: Birdie (2) on Par 3; One putt from GIR (12+ feet), slightly downhill, left to right; Pace of putt was firm and the ball entered from the left corner and bobbled up once as it went down the hole.

3.) Hole # 18: Scrambling Par (4) on Par 4. First shot using driver was mishit (grounded at least two inches behind the ball) but fortunately, my ball was able to roll into the fairway 214 yds. away from hole. 2nd shot using 4 iron landed in the left greenside bunker. 3rd shot blast out of sand trap landed less than 10 feet above the hole; One putt downhill with no break for Par went in.

  • 3 months later...

In my 20s.  First time I broke 80s

score 76  kept my scorecard

With basically 3 strokes

ugly full swing borderline hook

cut slice putting stroke and simple chip and roll swing

Was not long. Kept in the fairway and in play  2 putt every green

I quit after that knowing I didn’t really have the skill than be a 5-6 handicap player at best

After long layover from golf Came back to play and enjoying the challenge.  Made hole in one and learning new equipment and swing philosophy
