Ping g400 or Taylormade M4 Irons? Trackman results very close

Rainy day here yesterday so out of boredom I did the Trackman fitting at the local shop. My old Steel shafted Callaway X20's just don't seem to click with my old swing anymore. Hit the Rogues, Ping G400's and Taylormade M4's, all regular grahite shafts. Noticeable differences in ball flight and distance. The shop owner/club fitter was very helpful but seemed to be steering more in the Ping direction. Maybe he gets a better cut from them.

 

I liked both the Ping's and the M4's. I have been reading the G400's scuff up very quickly which is disappointing.

 

The G400 3 wood and 5 wood were great. Will probable pull the trigger on these two.

 

I enjoy reading the equipment forums so any feedback would be appreciated.

If they’re close in performance for you, play the ones you like the look of most.

 

PING might have better resale.

Gotta go with what appeals to you & your eyes, especially since they were close performance wise.

My G400s haven’t scruffed up badly and I’ve played over 100 rounds with them.

Go with what you like the look/sound/feel of best. If performance is close, using that criteria, you’ll likely keep and like them for longer.

G400s for me. Also try the 919 Hot Metals, great looking/feeling sticks too. ;)

Few things from my standpoint:

• I don't think the shop makes more by selling PING vs TM
  
• My G400's have held up very well finish wise compared to complaints I have seen on WRX -- if you don't like the wear, take some super fine grit sandpaper to them
  
• PING unequivocally has the better re-sale value
  
• I think that the G400's are a great iron, but so are the M4's and Callaway etc -- it's all about looks and feel and turf interaction (if you can hit them on grass that is the best test)
