Trackman

Curious of other peoples thoughts on this. Trackman came about in 2003 so by now I would like to believe it is well established. I would also say they have their operating costs and efficiencies are in order. I am curious when we will start to see a major price reduction with this technology. Looking at computers and televisions I would of thought over the last few years this item would already have been down in price. Curious on others thoughts.

Interesting topic. I wonder if they reduce TrackMan price to say, $2k, would they sell that many more to keep the same profit? Next question is how much does it actually cost to produce a single TrackMan?

Considering they keep improving the algorithms and the system I doubt they will come down in price. GCquad is more expensive than gc2 + hmt was.

 

I doubt we ever see the newest version become cheaper. The competition is between 2 other companies so unlike TVs where after a few months the latest s is a few hundred cheaper just not going to happen

I highly doubt we will see significant price decreases in their premiere product. The comparison to the microelectronic world isn't really valid since LMs are very much a niche product, there is very little competition, and there is no reason to lower prices if they continue to meet their profitability goals. Not to mention the value is less in the hardware, and more in the software and ball flight algorithms. The better comparison would be to software, highly specialized software packages don't typically cost any more to make, but the problem they address is what dictates their true market value. In the end, they will continue to charge as much as the market can bear. In general pricing in many segments of the economy are now dictated by perceived value, how much something costs to make isn't as relative. I'd expect to see a lower tier product offered before a big price reduction in their flagship product.

Another angle is this.

I am sure their costs have come down and they could certainly charge less, but what is the sales number for private use?

The value isn’t necessarily in the algorithm or the hardware, but in the cash flow generated by lessons and fittings.

So the markets will remain high bc it is a money maker for the buyer.

Probably not much on gc quad and trackman 4. Value is in software as others have said. However there are reports of swing caddy 3 coming out that will read spin and launch angle this spring at pga show. Around $500.00. I think we will see very soon very capable personal launch monitors that will be very accurate in that $500 range.

What’s missing from Skytrak that makes it less accurate than the big boys? It’s abiut $1700 on sale right ?

I doubt the price will ever come down much and could see the software fees increasing. I work for a very similar style company selling Sport Trchnology to elite sport teams (NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL and Olympic training centers). Our products certainly have a hard cost for the hardware/sensors/load cells that isn’t cheap. But our prices are based on continuing access to ever improving software, the support we hand out (general fixing of any problems, educational calls to improve use by our clients, data analysis and general help with updates). We actually make a cheap option but all our clients go with the most expensive version (about 25k versus $7,500 on the low end).

 

In essence I agree that typically this isn’t a product for average people. I think we will see new “cheaper” options or what I would think would be “X launch monitor supported by TrackMan” as to not lessen the brand but capture a new market.
