Founders Club Irons

Recommended Posts

In my recent wanderings I ran across a set of "Founders Club Series 200" irons.

Set is 2-pw with DG X-100 shafts in all but 2 iron, it has a DG s-300. From what I can discover these were manufactured from 1991 thru 1995.

If they all had s-300 shafts I would probably be interested.

There is a rumor that these clubs may be Miura forged, any truth too this?

On a side note: This is a very hazardous forum .I have more golf clubs than I ever dreamed of owning before I started lurking around GolfWRX.

I never had the 200's, but I did have( still do) the Tour CB's and they were Endo forged. I was told years ago that blades were in fact Miura forged.

Have owned 5 sets of the Founders 200 series, two of which I still own and have unique provenance. Personally confirmed years ago with Gary Adams (RIP) that the 200 series blades were in fact contracted to Miura for forging.

I picked up a set a couple years ago that had never been hit. They are indeed Miura forged and they are fabulous. Congratulations on your find. Enjoy!

Oh boy....Miura forged......LOL!! .

A gaggle of WRXers just went over to eBay to look for Founders club blades and use their 15% coupon!! ; )

I did. At least went and looked. Didn’t buy.

Probably found one ridiculously overpriced set that has been re-listed for years?

Interesting about definitely being a Miura forging. I thought just about all Miura forgings for that time period were satin chrome finish. The 200's are as shiny as chrome gets. Even the grooves are with no sandblasting on the face.

Must be quite an exception for Miura.

I'm going to speak WRX-heresy.... I think the whole "where was it forged" discussions to be one of the most overblown things in golf. I've hit the Founders 200s and they're rather nice, but they don't rank near the top for me.

Now I can go hide in the basement. LOL

Not heresy at all to me- in fact, the Founders 200 series had a couple of variations in both sole grind and toe shaping during retail run, and dependent upon player, can either suit or not. My friend Mike Taylor and I were having a discussion about myths/mystique of forging houses again recently, so at least we are in good company. Wait, why has that black SUV passed house couple of times now? ? ?

Raw forging done by Miura, chrome was indeed done elsewhere.

I am totally baffled by the Endo Forged craze. By any means the Endo forging is of high quality and has it's own niche. But, Selling a set of irons from 20+ years ago at a higher price than the original MSRP ?

I remembered something I had learned when I was a kid, never follow the crowd blindly in most cases, especially there is a sheepdog setting the pace for the flock.

I love Endo forged irons, it might have some Samurai Spirit forged into the steel ?

I have never hit a Founders Club iron period---- Miuras do hit sweet but I can not justify the price----- I had a set of TM 300 Lehman's for a brief while and did not really like them-- Right now I am messing around with a first run set of KZG CBs with graphite shafts that are Kyoei forged and they are sweet. Do not know if it is the graphite shafts or a combo of the head forgings. That Homna driver I have been gaming for a year or so hits really sweet too. Reading what I posted earlier, I realize it's not so clear.... my hitting the Founders doesn't have anything to do with my feelings about forging houses and the like. That comes from the dozens and dozens of different blades and CBs I've hit over the last 20 years, as I hoed my way around the golf club landscape. LOL

The softest club I've ever hit, so I felt at the time, isn't even forged.

You're not alone. Supposedly the Hogan Apex Plus I have are Endo forged or some such exotic thing. They're not the softest thing I've hit of the clubs I own. That luxury would belong to the investment cast, BeCu, component heads I have married to a set of Precision FCM 5.5 shafts. Not that that means a whole lot because the harshest clubs I've got are graphite shafted Ping i25's! Go figure... :dntknw:

I never hit those Lehmans--- I did a smoking hot trade deal on them and really honestly did not like the way they sat ( like a certain set of Snake Eyes) And 2 days later traded them for 3 sets of irons.

Well I thought my MacHogans were the softest feeling irons I had ever hit until I hit those KZGs with the graphite shafts. Time will tell on the KZGs since I have had only one range session and 1 1/2 rounds with them---- I work all week and the shorter days do not give me time to hit them and it has rained the last 3 weekends.

LOL---- That mess got started when Bear's son we call "Balls" ( because he hits it so far) got a Ping 400 Max. He is a real technical person and he was talking about the Titanium face. Bear was talking about the "twisted sister" face on his TM and "Checkers" was talking about his "Jailbird Faced" Cally----- I had to come up with something. Part of that came from one of the blade threads here on WRX when someone stated something close to that about Miura irons
