$500 bag - complete

I read through the articles on the site and set out to make a complete set for 500, in the scenario I need everything, and my bag was centered around building a set good enough for me to consistently and comfortably break 80 (I'm currently a 3). The challenge I ran into was finding X flex shafts but would happily game this. Lets hear your 500 bag!

My total - $489.55. I probably missed a few bargains, the set is only 12 clubs but would definitely be good enough to hit all the shots needed. I obviously went old school - was always fascinated by the old Pings and Callaways. I'm assuming I'll need new grips on all the clubs. The club faces were all in great shape, anyway... flame away

I don't understand why in these type of threads everyone resorts to 20 year old clubs. You can very easily make a sub $500 bag of great clubs that came out within the past 3-4 years

Because it's a big/fun space to play in and there's a ton of combos. Naturally, everyone's first instinct is older because it's sure to be cheaper.

That said, you're totally right and there are a LOT of newer options. Love the possibilities.

One bag right now:

Used Cobra SS forged 4-pw, eBay, $98

New Mizuno ST 180 Driver and new 3 wood, local course Black Friday sale, $200

Nearly new Odyssey, BST, $100

Scratch wedges, Golf USA used bin, $40

Used TM rescue/hybrid, $30

Used carry bag, Goodwill, $10

Dozen Project (a), local, $20

I guess that doesn't quite get me there. Actually, I find balls every day and would never have to buy another one ever, if I didn't want to. And I don't always use a glove. Close though.

Have been enjoying the experiment with older clubs, so much cheaper to futz with and so much more of the value black at resale if it doesn't work. 690.cb, 710 cb, the Cobras. Only set I really took a bath on were new i200s that were nice but not any better for me than these older sets.

Actually, since I'm still going on, what I really need is help on adjustments and grips for these used club experiments. I don't want to sink as much in them as I paid, to bend them flat and regroup to my preferred style. Do folks just eat the cost? Play the bare grips for a while and see if they're a go?

I've only ever had a new set gifted to me and then bought the new set of JPX 850s I have now (and will have for a very long time), but if I were experimenting with older clubs, I'd probably eat the cost and regrip them to something I like. But I'm really particular about my grips because most stuff eats my hands up, so it's almost a non-starter to me anyway. And if the clubs don't work out, I know enough folks who would appreciate a newly gripped set of older clubs.

But again, I'm not experimenting anyway, so you probably shouldn't listen to me!

Great bag setup! I've played with all of these clubs before and loved the driver and putter choice you made. I hit absolute bombs with that driver. Of course I sold it for something else. :swoon:

Current bag meets the criteria:

Callaway Big Bertha 2014- $79 ebay

Callaway Razr X 3 wood - gift but about $190

Hogan Apex ‘99 2-E — $179 ebay

MacGregor VIP forged wedges 52,56 — $22 ebay

Hogan Princess Putter- $7 Value Village

$477

I’m kind of amazed that I have spent all that much, actually...

Edit: my bag itself was a $5 garage sale find, so Im left with not a lot for balls. I guess I’m playing noodles or top flites.

I think it's much easier if you can grab a couple of things locally. If I stopped at the 3-4 goodwill's nearby, I'm relatively certain I could leave with a bag, balls, a decent set of irons, and a putter for less than $50 total. That leaves $450 for the driver/fairway/wedges and any other accessories. I have a set of Hogan Apex Edge and a set of Adams Idea Pro's that I got for $3 per club each, both from Goodwill.

I like your post and style and the fact that some folks here have or want budgets. Played Eye2's many years ago and bought my rossie ii back when I did. Hard to go wrong with your setup and it is a classy bag for half of what a new set of forged OEM's would go for. Congrats.

Aside, sold my Ping i3 Blades years ago and went component due to price and the ability to meet my personal fitting needs. Great way to go if this style of gear pricing is your deal.

My gamer bag fits already... Payed $120 for a brand new 2017 m2, $75 for my r15 5wood, and traded balls I find on the course for my Rouge 3wood, j15s, sm6s, and my putter and my SunMountain bag, and a bunch of gloves I've traded for when I see them on here . And honestly who buys tees, I have a pocket full after every round just from picking them up.

$200 bag right there,
