Question about Scottsdale area and Sedona

Couple of quick questions:

1. Have one round to play in Scottsdale. I have played both We-ko-pa courses. Don't mind driving an hour each way. Want to play picturesque course, and more prototypical desert golf (from Florida). Thinking either dinasour mountain or Quintero. What do you think? Would you play Monument course before these two?

 

2. Will be going to Sedona for a couple of days. Interested in playing 7 canyons. I am not a member of a private course and will not be staying at that resort. Is it possible to still get on? How much is green fee normally?

Monument (or Pinnacle) far better than either Quintero or Dino Mtn, also consider Wickenburg Ranch instead of Quintero.

Dinosaur Mountain is a fun course to play once or twice. It's a little gimmicky, and some people hate it, but I enjoy it. If you don't want to pay the high costs of the others, then its a great option. Check out birdiebug.com too, as I've gotten some deals in peak season at Dinosaur Mtn before.

Wickenburg is probably a more interesting course than Quintero. The Monument is very good, too.

Re 7 Canyons, you might be able to get on with a phone call. Can be pricey though.

Thanks for the replies. So if you had to have a top 5 for round within an hour of phx/Scottsdale and under $200 peak season, what would the top 5 be?

I played 7 canyons a couple years ago by just calling. It wasn't overly pricey either. Can't remember what they charged me, but it wasn't bad. Unreal course views, Sedona is one of my favorite places on earth.

Grayhawk to me is not in my top 30 in the whole desert area.

I’ve played there 30 times and the greens were never once smooth or better then 10 on the stimp. Very unmemorable holes.

The only reason I played there so many times was because a friend had a membership and I was able to get on for $40.

Would be a great place if the cost was consistently $89. But for upwards of $200, it should come with $120 of if proshop credit.

There are many courses in the PHX/Scottsdale area that I think are more interesting and/or have equal or better views. Quintero is a nice course,secluded and in excellent condition (if that's your thing) but I'd play both courses at We Ko Pa, both at Troon Verde River (or whatever its now called) Wickenburg, Southern Dunes, Ambiente, Talking Stick, Wigam Gold (forgot the new name) Boulders South, Verrado, and others before playing Quintero again. Of the ten courses that Dr Schteeve listed above I think I might have Quintero between eighth and tenth.

Based on our recent trip to Scottsdale the top 5 (public) would be We Ko Pa Saguaro, Ak Chin Southern Dunes, Wickenburg Ranch, Seven Canyons at Sedona, and maybe TN Monument. But I did like Quintero and TPC Stadium well enough despite all the bad wraps.
