Monte's efficient swing

Monte posted something on IG (in his IG story I believe) in the last week that the main site was having some issues, but the video site mentioned in the post above was fine.

Video site is not fine. I am trying to play videos that I own and it is saying I need to purchase. Plus I don't see anywhere on the site for support

log out and log back in. It has done this to me for a long time and I have purchased all the videos. That seems to fix it

Question... So based on video of my swing I know that takeaway is not good. I roll my forearms and instead of club parallel to target line at P2, it's inside, pointing to probably 7 o'clock. I also have a late wrist hinge (very little hinge at P3), but I'm thinking fixing the takeaway will also start the wrist hinge earlier. Either way I need to fix P2 before I start worrying about P3 and beyond.

He shows drill 1 (wrist/arms only, no hip turn, take it to P2 and hit) and drill 2 (add in the free hip turn, take it to P2 and hit), and then drill 3 (two balls, do drill 1 immediately followed by drill 2). I got all that and I've got video set up so I can easily do that and checkpoint myself.

But one more question... Should I be alternating in full swings every now and again (maybe every 6th-10th swing) on video to see if this is bleeding into full swings? Or just focus on doing drills 1-3 and not worry at all whether it's showing up in the full swing for now?

YMMV, but Monte has said do drills 3-5 times, then hit 10 balls with a normal swing. Rinse and repeat.

I just started the efficient swing journey.  I worked exclusively on segment 1 today.  Contact for the first drill (just arms) was mixed.  When adding in rotation in the 2nd drill contact was a lot better.  When alternating between 1 and 2, contact in drill 1 was better.  My plan for my next range session will be revisiting segment 1 before moving on to segment 2, left arm parallel.

I am just getting back to golf after a good 3 year absence. Just have a bad back and it gets wrecked playing and I just stop playing. Have really worked on fitness and my back is feeling better. Picked up the clubs and started hitting balls. Was not good. Played a round and shot a 100. Lots of shanks on the range with some fatties mixed in

Feeling dejected I went to my normal fix which is Monte. Found the Efficient Swing in my library and started watching. He breaks down the swing in such easy to digest ways. Been doing this for about 2 months now. Just played on Monday and shot a 77. I have never hit my irons better. Have gained a good 15 yards on my irons and I moved from PXG XF irons to Mizzy Pro 225's which have lower lofts so I should not have gained yardage. My swing feels pretty good and the best part is my back is feeling great as well. Best part is I have not even gotten to the transition part of the video so I'm hoping even better things await.

Monte always says that when doing movement drills, DON'T WORRY ABOUT CONTACT! The goal is to do the drill, confirm using video that you're doing it properly, and the ball could go anywhere because you're deliberately trying to change something that you are absolutely not used to.

For me, even deliberately trying to do the drills, I'm not actually getting the shaft pointing the right direction at P2 consistently yet (bearing in mind I've only just started doing the drills). If I start caring where the ball goes rather than getting the movement right, I'm never going to commit to the movement.

I know he says that but it is super hard to not care where that ball goes

Yeah, that's why I'm doing it into a net in the backyard so I can't know 😉

I did film and watched a few minutes it looked like I was going a bit past shaft parallel, but the club was in the right position.  I agree not caring where the ball goes is important and not caring seemed to releive a bit of stress.

Haha. I live in a condo so no backyard. Put a net up in a little hallway. First shot was a shank right into the wall. Now I'm exclusively a range guy lol

Ahh... Foam balls! I hit one 45* off the toe today trying to do a "full swing" focusing on takeaway. It went straight right, into the fence (missing the net completely) and instead of a ricochet back at my house that could break the master bedroom window--incurring untold wrath--it harmlessly bounced off the fence and no harm done.

Granted, you might have used up your goodwill already...

Yeah, and Monte does say that during the drill it's common to go past shaft parallel. I think the key is where you are positionally at shaft parallel, not necessarily stopping there.

That said, when I was doing the drill, I intended to stop at shaft parallel and actually was getting all the way to left arm parallel! So I need to rein that in a bit.

So I’m working my way through the videos and right now feel good about the strides I have made over a few range sessions.  I do have a question for those that have done this.  In section 4 about transition, are you supposed to do all the drills or not?  I know in the lessons @MonteScheinblum has both students doing all the drills.
