@bitt03 . I played Patriots a week or so ago in an event, conditions were pretty good except some of the overseed on several greens was spotty. It very well could of grown in by now. If you can get a deal off of the rack rate it would be worth it. Don’t get over to MP much for golf otherwise, so can’t speak to the rest.

Charleston National is in good shape but greens are a little slower due to recent rain and it just being winter

rivertowne is still awful and will be probably until May or june

dune west is in fine shape with a few rough spots due to recent rain/winter stuff but greens are actually doing pretty well.

wild dunes is in great shape as always.

Patriots is on good shape especially for them greens are rolling nice (just wish more people fixed pitch marks) and fairways are in great shape besides being bumpy and rolling so if you play there just keep it slow on the fairway or you’ll feel like your spine is coming loose

haven’t got out to anything else outside of mount pleasant.

Forever Changing at this point.......

i will say, once March hits, typically you will see what course are legit and know how to manage their conditions. Three come to mind: Wild dunes links, Charleston national, and stono.

the rest do ok but typically suffer some weird grass spotting they all blame on the “rough winter” but more so I think they all just kill their greens and what not by trying to keep them firm and short all winter long which you can’t do here due to the random cold spells we get.

Bumping this up......

Coming down in mid-May for a destination wedding. Staying on IOP but planning on getting a round in on a Friday. Any updates on course conditions? I think Wild Dunes Links will be out of everyone's price range (8 guys with all varying abilities). How have Rivertowne, Dunes West, or Charleston National been lately? I used to love Rivertowne a few years ago, but it seems to have taken a bit of a dive based on recent reviews.

Can’t say that I’ve played at any of those in past 6 months, but did talk to a guy last weekend that said RT was still struggling. I think Charleston National is your best bet- I’ve never seen it in “bad” condition and IMO it is the best layout of those three options- with lots of marsh views it very representative of Lowcountry golf which the out of town guys should appreciate. Bonus - Aside from the salt marsh there are even a few freshwater ponds so you probably will see some gators- always a never fail way to make any Yankee golfers day!

Charleston National will be in great shape.

Rivertowne hopefully will have decent enough weather between now and then to have their fairways come back but with their greenskeeper abilities who knows what theyll eff up next.

Dunes west should be fine as well. Since the new greens got put in last summer or so they have done a pretty good job.

Just know, with 8 guys, Charleston national will be a slower round as it is very popular among anyone who lives here or travels to here. It is also the "hardest" due to all the marsh and/or angles you need to play. Dunes west will be the best for various skill levels as the tee boxes are plentiful without getting too long from the back if you need more of a challenge. Rivertowne is right in the middle. I personally like the layout better at RT than C national but that may be due to me playing national a ton throughout the year.

Hey there, I'm new to the site but we are taking a trip to Charleston in september for 12 guys. I'm looking for 4 courses that fall into categories of best conditions, playability and cost of $120 and down! we do a couple days of 36 if you know who does great replays as well. I appreciate the insight! Sounds like Charleston Nat'l is a good one, Dunes West also.

thanks in advance!!!

Keith

Moved to Charleston around 4 years ago (Mount Pleasant). I prefer Dunes West just slightly over Charleston National. Rivertowne is a good track but still has some lingering fairway issues. Harbor and Links courses at Wild Dunes on IOP are also great tracks.

I just recently learned about Charleston National's history. It was apparently going to be a super exclusive club when Hugo all but wiped it out and changed the landscape just as they were finishing the course. Some of the holes are a little quirky, I'm sure due to the redesign after Hugo. The finisher is a par 3, for example. Still a great track.

Back in early 2000's they had CN greens rolling fast and it was in great shape. When they slowed the greens it killed it. I remember having to putt backwards to get balls close using the slopes.

If memory serves that part 3 was a different hole #. I think. It was definitely meant to be way more than it is...still a fun track.

Tee off from the u-turn path teebox on 15? Or one of those back nine holes out on the water - good track.
