Stu, I must be almost there with the persimmons but not so much with the wedges and putters. I have tended to stick to my Ram Tom Watson wedges with occasional departure to Wilson R20 & R90. Putter wise I played my B60 for many many years before converting to a Zebra. As you say, so much great stuff, so little time.....!

Hi I’m new here. And I have a problem.

 

I just bought a nice set of Wilson Billy Casper super power. Full set I think. D,3,4,3-pw. Still have the reminder grips on them.

I’ve been holding on to a set of Allied Johnny Roberts AGM 99 for years also some woods with it but I can’t remember which ones. Those are the ones I want to hang on the wall

not to mention all the irons and clubs from the last few years I still play.

 

by any chance does anyone know the years of the billy Caspers or the allied?

I have an old set of Hogan Apex Grind blades which are really lovely - but the shafts are pretty rusty and really too soft for me. I’m looking to pull the heads, maybe strip the chrome and refinish, or maybe leave raw. Then fit some modern shafts, probably KBS tour, sort out lies and lofts and use them as a Sunday set or for travelling.

So first things first - pull the heads. I don’t have a proper shaft puller but have had prior success just heating heads and pulling with the shaft clamped. However these appear to be pinned on one side. Do I just drill this out? Do I need to pin it again when the new shafts go in?

I would suggest using a 1/8" pin punch and hammer to drive the pin enough to clear. You should be able to just heat the hosel and twist to remove. With modern day epoxy you shouldn't need to re-pin. Just fill the hole with epoxy.

I have the same set and I'm not convinced it's actually a pin. I think it's an indent painted black and it's purely cosmetic. I think pins go through both sides of the hosel, which this doesn't, but I could be wrong

Find a drill bit that's at pin diameter. High likelihood it's a standard size. Pin can be replaced if ever desired with off the shelf one. Hollow out to depth that clears (1/8" to 3/16"). Heat and twist off.

I pulled the heads off some grinds a few years ago. No pin. The redlines have editions with and without a pin - between 88 and 89 those.
