This seems about the only place to get decent feedback I can trust anymore....lol

 

I am looking for a nice pair of cap toe oxfords to go with a suit (black). I dig the Allen Edmonds Strand, great looking shoe, but $400 is a little much.

Appreciate any suggestions.

Head to Von Maur get some Johnston Murphy’s! Been wearing their nice cap toe for years. Meaning JM, my lower cost “source” retired a few years ago, lol.

Only issue with Von Maur is they don’t always carry wides always which can be annoying for me.

I would not purchase for full price either, but in the sale you never know. If you can get one for 40% to 50% off retail it might be worth it.

Zappos had the JM Melton cap toe on sale a few days ago, but went back up, called in and they honored the sale price, also let me use my 10% code and $5 reward, out the door for overnight delivery for $128.

I second Johnston and Murphy. I rotate black and cordovan captoe shoes when I wear a suit and have a pair of calfskin loafers that I wear when no suit is required.

I did, and was considering, but scored these for $124, nice deal, was not able to find anything with right size that looked as good for price. I have small, wide feet, always tough to find the perfect fit, which is why I stick with free return/exchange sites.

Not sure if you have an American Express card OR if they still offer it, but ShopRunner is fantastic for this. I was able to get ShopRunner for free and it gives youfree 2 day shipping with free returns. Just something that may be useful in the future :). I use it a lot when I buy brooks brothers sport shirts.

I use Zappos for most shoes, if you are VIP, free overnight shipping and free returns. The first pair they sent had a wide and a double wide shoe in one box. I called, they sent the replacement before I even got the return label for the original pair. No charges and had the new ones the same day I sent the original back, they are awesome

Allen Edmonds always has sales - watch for them. I don't pay more than $250 - still not cheap but not $400 insane

Most AE shoes are “recraftable”, which helps longevity. For $125 you get back what amount to entirely new shoes that are already broken in to your feet. So they will drastically outlive any shoe that has rubber soles.

Ive typically bought recraftable AE shoes at discount places (like Nordstrom stack). Not always much selection, but you can find good shoes for 200ish if you time it right.
