In the versions I've been involved in, the purchased string is "consumed" on each hole it is used to "hole" a putt. So, let's say you buy 50 ft of string. With that you can make 50 ft worth of putts, but after that, you have no more string to use. E.g. With 50 ft you can have gimmes for ten 5ft putts, or two 25ft putts, etc... The scenario I mention is in some tournaments where there is unlimited string available for purchase (the proceeds typically go to charity) and you might have one team that buys 1000ft worth of string for $1 per foot. Pretty much guarantees any shot onto the green is considered holed. Scores are correspondingly ridiculous. Eh - so what.

Like I said, these sorts of scrambles are purely entertainment events and let folks have a bit of fun away from the office. The majority of players maybe play once or twice a year at best. Many have maybe only played a few times ever. I don't knock it because the purpose isn't really any sort of formal/regular golf competition.

If that is true, that score is very likely legit with that team. That would mean simply an eagle on each par 5. And four par 4's where they hit their approaches tight. This is hilarious.

I don’t think 4 plus caps could ho this low. It would require too many par 4 hole outs and there were only two drivable ones.

I played an event last year where the “winner” was drawn at random. I quite liked this. Within your own group you still want to do the best you can and the occasional scramble is always fun. With no incentive to “cheat” there were no scoring anomalies that day....
