Just heard on the radio that Palm Springs has a “shelter in place” policy now and all nonessential businesses are to be closed thru the end of the month. Didn’t hear if that included golf courses.

Indian Canyons North/South & Tahquitz Creek closed today.

Fantasy Springs Casino closed not sure about Eagle Falls.

No updates on PGA West or any La Quinta courses just yet.

I was suppose to fly out from MN on April 2nd and play at DW the following week. I canceled our family trip yesterday. Kids are very sad but we will move on and hope to get back next spring.

Channel 3 KESQ News - Local Doc says "This is a once in 500-year event," He predicts 4,000 deaths of people over the age of 60 in the Coachella Valley, in addition to 200 deaths of people under 40 years old. The population of the Coachella Valley is nearly 190,000 people. To date there are three coronavirus fatalities and 16 cases of infection, they haven't been able to test many individuals, these numbers will likely increase. It's only his prediction, but sure scary for the locals, but not for the Lady I spoke to from Oregon, she's staying here because it's warmer than back home were there's less cases.

Escena's closed yesterday, happy I used my free round, this happened so quickly. More golf courses closed today, grocery stores are cleaned out, got the last rotisserie chicken at Stater Bros, more areas will be following the shelter in place like the City of Palm Springs implemented.

To add to the misery, didn't see much sun, 62F & rained most of the day, depressing.

Packing everything up Thursday & driving early Friday, March 20th for the Cdn border, not sick, just want to get home, from what I read, it's not much better in Central Alberta.

Hope they get this virus under control, so we can return next year.

From the NEWS article, the Doc. told the Riverside County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday that the situation in the area could become dire.

Perhaps as a result they put a number of preventive actions in place and testing has expanded rapidly.

This morning the TV said there were no new cases in the Coachella Valley.

Departed Palm Springs Friday am, arrived home yesterday afternoon, easy drive on the i15, most of the vehicles on road had Cdn license plates, no issues at the border, took 3 minutes to clear. Miss Palm Springs already, live next to my home course, it doesn't look like it's going to open anytime soon.

While we were still in Palm Springs, Gov. Gavin Newsom declared a State of Emergency and shut down all non-essential businesses and told residents they must stay at home, I would think every golf course including Classic Club would be closed or would be subject to fines & penalties. Tks Paul .... we may be entitled to a Travel Interruption claim through our insurance, that would be nice to get $1400 USD back as a result of the Travel Advisory informing us we had to return by March 23rd.

Read something in the Palm Spring news, a few Cities in the Coachella Valley have banned all short term vacation rentals until June & it maybe extended. Hope it all gets settled, too.

Or Govt is hoping to get this under control here & putting some strict measures in place for all of us, we currently have 3,579 cases nationally, 36 deaths & some good news 185 people who have recovered. I'm not sick & currently doing my time in jail, but can still work in my shop, plan to regrip my clubs with the new Tour Velvet Align grips & swap out a shaft or two, check my S/W in my new G410 Hybrids, and clean up the garage.

Had a delivery service drop off a box of beer & case wine this morning.

Under the circumstances, it's all good .... stay healthy.

That sure wouldn't my feelings any if I were you! $1400 ain't exactly a poke in the eye.

As for the short term rental deal the guy we rented from this year said that Palm Springs had passed a law last summer that prohibited any gated community from renting to anyone for less than 30 days.

Hence, his place is up for sale.

Guess the resorts and hotels didn't much like the competition so I'm sure if they can figure out a way to benefit from this deal they certainly will.

Oh, and having beer and wine delivered doesn't suck!

Been playing here some as most courses have remained open with lots of restrictions. Kinda weird but certainly better than not playing at all. Now if it would just quit raining and dry out a little.....

Got a new Scotty Cameron Special Select and it showed up the same day that they started leaving the cup liners an inch and a half above the hole. I think I'm rolling it great but how's a guy supposed to know when there's no hole there?

In fact, I had eight one putts on the back nine two days ago!

I think I'm starting to like pinball putting.

I'm still in jail until April 06th, still not sick but getting cabin fever, fortunately we still have Internet, TV & booze.

Local private golf clubs send letter to County Supervisor requesting play to be allowed

Riverside County Supervisor Manny Perez says the county will not alter its "stay at home" orders for private golf clubs after the board members of 21 private clubs around Coachella Valley sent a letter asking to allow its members to engage in safe golf activities.

Last week. Riverside County ordered that all public and private courses must be closed. Maintenance workers are allowed to continue working on courses so clubs will be able to resume operations once the state and local orders are lifted, according to the county's FAQ section.

Board members of private clubs noted that numerous counties across California made their own determinations regarding golf. For instance, Sacramento County allows golf on public and private courses. Monterey County allows golf on private courses. Public and private courses are open in Oceanside, Chula Vista, and Escondido.

The message and belief of the clubs is that golf should be treated the same as any other recreational activity that is allowed right now with social distancing.

"We believe that golf should be treated the same as walking, running, cycling and other outdoor recreational sports and activities that offer the benefits of social distancing. By the game’s nature, golfers play more than six feet apart and, in most cases, remain up to hundreds of feet apart," reads the letter from general managers of most of the valley's private clubs.

The managers of our valley's private clubs asked that the county allow private golf clubs to maintain social distancing while remaining open for restricted play.

Supervisor Perez told News Channel 3's Blake Arthur that the county's decision on the matter has not changed. This means that golf is still not allowed.

County health officials continue to ask residents to stay in place, maintain your space, and cover your face.

 

Riverside County health officials announced 80 new cases on Tuesday, bringing the total from 291 to 371.Cases in Coachella Valley Cities:

We are indeed under a state "Stay at Home" order but most golf courses have been allowed to stay open albeit with the typical restrictions. One player per cart, no pro shop access, one at a time to enter clubhouse for food and beverage, carryout food only, etc.

And lots of local homeowners are taking advantage of the carryout food option including me.

Place and pay for the order online then hop in the golf cart and run a couple blocks up the street and one of the guys comes out and hands me the food.

Several of the courses in the area were closed initially but most reopened last week with the above restrictions although I think some are still walking only.

Plenty of people not happy about it but most are equally upset about joggers, walkers and pretty much anybody that is able to get out and exercise and enjoy themselves under the circumstances.

More of a, "Why should they be happy?" attitude than anything to do with safety.

Quite honestly, for an old retired guy that doesn't go out much anyways it's not that big of deal since I can play golf, go fishing and get to the grocery and hardware store as needed.

Although no March Madness, Master's or Major League Baseball is killing me.

The upcoming Final Four weekend is gonna be especially tough wondering if my Jayhawk's would have been there!

KESQ Channel #3 NEWS Article - Riverside County closes all golf courses until June 19

 

 

 

Riverside County Public Health Officers have issued a new order that closes all golf courses in Riverside County, whether public or private, until June 19.

The new order was issued on Thursday, April 2 and is effective immediately.

"Use of golf courses, and their ancillary areas, shall not be permitted by any person or group, regardless of membership status, course admission cost, or party size," reads the order.

News Channel 3's Sports Director Blake Arthur broke the news on the order Thursday afternoon.

Those who violate the order are subject to fines, imprisonment, or both. There are also civil penalties of up to $1,000 a day.

Maintenance and landscaping work is still allowed at the facility so that it is ready when play is once again allowed. Security is also allowed to continue operating.

This new order comes just a few days after various local private golf clubs sent a letter to the county asking for play to be allowed.

Yeah, not much doubt about that. We're pretty fortunate in that Kathy is still working everyday as she was deemed "essential" and obviously my retirement isn't affected so we've been minimally impacted.

Beyond grateful to still be able to play although today we're in the middle of a typical northeast Kansas April ice storm and the windchill is currently 17 so we're under a weather mandated stay at home order!

Hopefully it doesn't get much worse as also typically all of the trees popped buds this week and lots of plant life has been emerging for the last couple of weeks.

Haven't noticed any limbs down yet but it won't take too much more for that to become an issue along with power lines.

Going down to 25 tonight but back to the 50's tomorrow and they're saying 80 by Tuesday and Wednesday.

Weather around this part of the country is seldom boring that's for sure.
