That one guy you HATE playing with...

I played with a guy that commented about every bad shot he hit. He didn’t make excuses, he just explained what he did wrong on every shot. I’m a fast player, so I’m ready to go as soon as he’s done, and I had to step away numerous times because he was still talking. I played a round with him and his adult son, that thinks is a lot better than he is, and they were bitching at each other the whole round. It made for a long, uncomfortable day.

Have you per chance played a round at Rocky River GC in Concord recently?

No. Never heard of it.

LOL just checking. I played with a low capper from Winston Salem a few weeks back. Figured it unlikely, but one never knows....

I thought that you might have a guy like I described down at that course. It’s been kind of a tough year. Shoulder surgery and the onset of some arthritis issues, so I haven’t been playing like a low capper for awhile.

I don't know why so many people pay for 50-60 dollar a dozen golf balls when all they do is shank it. A ball hunting golfer last week that I played a round with said he found over 100 ProV1s in the woods and weeds. He played 9 holes and then went to scour the woods and weeds for golf balls.

I'm gonna start doing that myself. 😄 No more buying golf balls, and I can get single use Pro V1s without having to pay for them! 😄

Although, I can understand when you watch it go into the rough 3 yards off the fairway and can't find it. That's pretty frustrating, LOL.😕

I'm baffled too. If that were me, I'd be a pure Pinnacle guy.

In the evenings when I don't have to worry about holding people up, I have started making it a point to look for balls. In the past week, I have probably found 40 "premium" balls in great shape. I've gotten so many that I'm only picking up nice ones now. I won't buy a ball again outside of a competitive round where I'm supposed to have matching sleeves.

The only issue is avoiding these guys. I saw this one last night, and almost came face to face with one last weekend in the bushes.

Just venting - I used to play every Saturday and Sunday. Ever since we had our daughter 18 months ago, I'm on the course once, sometimes twice a month at best. Because of that, I tend to cherish my golf time more than I ever have before.

I've been playing with the same two guys for over a decade now. We go out, we have fun, no one gets pissed or complains. What makes it more fun is that each of us are pretty decent sticks.

However, a couple of years ago, they invited a dude to start joining us who is just a disaster. I'll be straight - the guy is an 18 HCP at best, but the ole' foot wedge and miraculously dry ball that you "swear you saw a splash on" ends up being dry helps him deflate his score dramatically.

On top of that, he throws clubs, yells, walks in peoples lines, verbally abuses the staff, and complains all the way through the round (when he doesn't quit after 11 holes).

I've about had it. I feel like I can't say much directly to him because I'm not the one who invited him to the group. The other 2 guys seem more laid back about it, but I haven't mentioned it to them yet.

Since I get to play so little nowadays, do I just keep sucking it up? Do I mention it to them, and just say "I'm going to find a new group to play with because this is unbearable?"

Would hate to drop playing with the guys I've been golfing with since 2007, but I'm about at my wits end.

Not sure if anyone has advice, or if you've ever dealt with a similar situation. It's so bad that we were planning a trip for October to Florida, and when I found out he was going, I backed out (made up some excuse).

The guy mansplaining golf to his wife the entire round. Usually these guys are quite annoying and furthermore, after seeing their swing, don't have any business doing so.

I've got "SPIDAR" (Spider Detection and Ranging) in my brain so I avoid them. I seem to have a 6th sense for webs and spiders. I helps me reflexively avoid them when the glint catches my eye.... lol

Into underbrush, I'm scanning constantly... I usually don't kill them at the house,  I try to move them.. but their crabby cousins are faster and incompatible with that approach lol.....

For the most part I've been lucky, but I've run into a few folks like that. I might occasionally "over share" when I'm embarrassed, but mostly I keep it to myself.

I find the bravado some folks exude is what gets to me. It instills an unfortunate competitive need within me that simply is more destructive than constructive.

Golf is great for the competitive spirit,  but not when it comes from angst. I need to work on that lol
