Trestle sticks - awesome or pain in the ass?

I wasn’t able to find a thread to answer my questions. I love some of the minimalist bags out there and was thinking about making the switch, but playing in the Midwest can lead to muddy/wet conditions. Does anyone use trestle sticks when walking or are they just too much of a hassle to deal with? Is there an easy/efficient way to deploy them when walking?

I use a set all the time with my MacKenzie because I'm usually playing early morning rounds. Easy to use. I usually will put them back in the bag (like a golf club) in between shots and grab them as I'm getting to my ball. Easy to deploy and stand the bag up and grab a club. Wouldn't use my MacKenzie without them.

Unless you're absolutely in love with aesthetic of that style of bag, there are a lot of lightweight bags with legs or half legs that would save a lot of repetitive hassle no?

I had a Jones bag, but play early. The bag was very nice, but not very practical. It got wet, and it got me wet. Also, I like double straps to distribute the weight better. After I got the Jones bag, I decided the good old days really were not that good.

Trestle sticks are so cool but I’m not sure how practical they are unless you have back problems. Kinda defeats the minimalist approach imo

Not sure what you mean. You put the trestle sticks in the bag for days where the ground might be damp and just pull them out when you need them. Otherwise they stay in the trunk.

Edit - Just re-read your post, don't think most guys that use trestle sticks do so because of not wanting to reach down and pick the bag up (some maybe, not most). Most use them to keep bag from getting damp/muddy.

I am in Wisconsin and i wonder if i should get one since the early mornings usually are damp and wet, perhaps it would be a good investment and after using awhile you should get the hang of it.

Honestly, trestle sticks in your hand are great walking sticks.  I don't put them in the bag when I pick up the bag.  In a weird sort of way they just become part of the rhythm of your stride.

I'm still using my for the damp early morning rounds.  It does just become part of your usual routine when picking up or putting down the bag.
