Mizuno ES21 Wedge

I usually gravitate toward the most simple clubs and and designs and am more of a traditionalist. But I am intrigued by the ES21 wedge, in part because I like the look, even though it is busier cosmetically than what I generally use, and also because the center-of-gravity shift is something that could actually improve my consistency, given that I am more of a middle-to-toe striker with the wedges.

 

Is this just an over-engineered, marketing-driven entry in the wedge market or is Mizuno onto something here? Anyone have any direct testing experience yet?

I'm also intrigued by by the ES21.  I'm not as concerned with the different cosmetics, especially when it looks like you aren't going to see anything out of the ordinary at address. 

 

The tech makes sense and I'm looking forward to gaming it!

Played 2 rounds with a demo, while not life changing, the higher CG location does make center or higher strikes feel better. Launch may have been 1* lower for me on mid distance shots and spin there was no noticeable difference. Could easily play these in place of T20 or Vokey. Most of the flighting of wedges still will come from technique. YMMV

Good to hear an opinion from someone who has hit it.  I ordered a 55 and 60 on 8/31.  Called Mizuno today and they said its gonna be October before they have the heads.  Bummed.

im really looking forward to these, I think the tech story makes sense and have been wanting to move to a more forgiving iron.

I finally saw one in the wild last week... they look good! 
 

I might pick one up at the end of the season, but probably just one... I’m moving into a cavity back gap wedge to see if I like it right now and my lob wedge needs more versatility, so I’ll stick with a smaller sole... the wide design in sand wedge is exactly what I’m looking for at sand wedge, though!

Bring the blue or satin colors to the US with more shaft options and I am in for 54* and 60*.

What do you play for a gap wedge, since the ES21 only start at 54?

Unfortunately I don't find these to be anything special. Feel was meh, spin meh.  Nothing you can't get out of Vokey's, CBX 2's or Pings which I still believe are much better.
