Mizzy advice

Hey Gang,

I've admired Mizuno equipment for a long time.  I haven't gamed any Mizuno stuff since the T-Zoid days however.  I want to do a little project involving some Mizuno blades in the 7-PW and shafting them up in some Mitsubishi MMT graphite shafts.  Do I go for the more recent MP-20s or do I go with some older Mizunos, maybe have them refinished and regrooved if needed.  In your opinion am I missing out on better clubs if I don't go with the MP-20s.

Just curious to see what the forums thoughts are.  Sitting here daydreaming about a all Mizuno bag for the future.

Reshafting and groove work costs are pricey, best bet, order new, get them to your specs and shafts, even if the shaft has an upgraded cost, it will be more cost effective. Mizuno custom  is very easy to work with.

I just bought a set of MMC MP20s here.  Would have been $1400 new with a wait, and these had a handful of rounds for $780. I could have gotten a set for $600 if I had waited, but these had the exact shafts I need.

If you are really on a budget, get a set of MP18s or MP20s and find used shafts.  I don't know about those specifically, but most pulls are available on eBay for $100-120.

Yeah, new is probably best if youre going to reshaft.  Otherwise, you can find some used MP4's in good shape.  They get huge love here.

In my varied Iron Quiver  I have the following :

MP5, MP20, MP20-MMC  and MP 18 MMC ..  Love the feel of the MP20s and 5 , but for serious wanna score the best -- the MP18-MMC go in the bag.  I also love to experiment so the MMCs have had a couple of different shafts tried and currently the Recoil Shafts are feelin the best.  Tried the XP105 and did not like the feel at impact. KBS Tours for a steel shaft feel perfect for the MP5s. The MMCs get me closest to the pin.  Have KBS 105 shaft coming next week -- dunno which set gets those puppies.

You prefer the MP18 MMC over the MP20 MMC? Is it a shaft issue or do you actually prefer them with identical builds?

I spoke to someone from Mizuno a couple of months ago (called the toll free number on their website) and they confirmed that you can go through an authorized retailer, send in the heads and have them reshafted (the savings being the cost you'd pay a fitter to do the work). I haven't used this service yet but intend to later on with my spare MP-60s and MP-53s.

Have yet to take that step - of identical builds ,, soon it will happen cuz I am also curious to that answer.  One reason for the favorite on the MP18 MMC is I have the 5 in the MP18 Fli Hi -- and just love it. I also have the identical build in a HMB MP20 5 iron.  The MP18 Fli Hi I think is better.  also love my S18 Wedges  -  have the T20 wedges - they are also good/great but need to get the same shaft for those T20s and test again.

why send them in? - reshafting irons is easier than driving a golf cart. Nice thing is you can reshaft just one and try it out.. as in use your favorite iron - like a 7 iron or 8 iron - just reshaft that guy and go test.  don't do the whole set at one time.. get to like one before you go all in.

If one has the tools and knowledge then by all means ... but it wasn't clear to me that OP does.
