What happened to my pw?

I was hitting my pw today and noticed that the top corner had some damage I’d never seen before. It looks like a scrape and some of the silver cover is chipping off.

I have no idea how it happened as I am rather protective of my clubs and I never saw it before today. It is an MP20 MB iron.

I asked the guy in the pro shop (who said he is a mizuno rep) and at first he said he thought I hit it against the stall at the range. Once he looked closely he agreed that wasn’t it and he started asking where I got the irons and who made them. I asked if he thought there was an issue but he was super cagey and wouldn’t give me an answer.

It doesn’t affect the playing of the club but I’m afraid the chipping will get worse and I’m just sad bc it is such a pretty clubbing

if anyone has any ideas on what this is and/or how I can fix it, please let me know!

It looks as if somebody was hitting the toe of the club against something hard or with something hard.

I think you can see the copper underlay of showing in the second picture which would imply that the chrome is cracked and is coming off.

His questions suggest that he might think they are fakes, but if they have the copper underlay I'd be surprised if that's the case.

Honestly I have no idea how this could have happened. Do you know if there any way to have it fixed?

If the chrome is separating from the copper there's no way to fix it yourself.

I'd send it to Mizuno to check it out. Do the irons have a serial number on them somewhere that you can check to see if they are fakes?

Yeah they do and I registered them. I had them custom built by a fitter so I’d be very surprised if they were fakes.

Do you know if I would just contact mizuno directly? Unfortunately I had these built while in Australia and now I’m in NYC.

Looks like what happens when a whole golf bag hits the deck on concrete. Sad to see.

This happened with a few previous generations of Ping irons  when they chrome plated over stainless - if the bond between the chrome and whatever surface is underneath isn't as strong the chrome can start peeling off.

The guy at the store tried to tell me it was from smacking it into something, and I had to ask a few times to even get them to send it up to Ping. After seeing one club with the chrome peeling Ping replaced the full set as it is a manufacturing defect.

Definitely get in touch with Mizuno customer service if I were you.

Seem like damage from impact with a object that was harder than the steel, and judged by the damage don the object that hit the club is probably 5,972E24 Kg of mass who had a speed of 30 kilometer per second or higher at impact. (that object is mother earth, the surface a stone, road, or any surface hard enough to deform steel.)

A small light hammer with a smooth face, and MANY but LIGHT taps, and its fixed within a few minutes. There might be a small damage to the chrome layer, who might make a rust spot at that place, but some AUTOSOL Chrome polish,  now and then will keep it nice. (look into a car accessory shop for AUTOSOL or check the net). it must have been on the marked for 50 years and is still of the best there is for polishing of everything from aluminium (chrome look), raw steel (to chrome look), chrome plated heads, and maintenance of chrome plated steel shafts. Autosol is like Lead tape....very versatile and "Basic needed stuff" in a repair shop, bee it at a private hobbyist or professional workshop.

Here is example of a leading edge damage fixed with a small light hammer and Autosol. (NO GRINDING _ NEVER GRIND).
