P. Reed's lead foot on the tee of 7...

I was really surprised there was no comment about this...

 

Reed hit wedge off the tee. The slo-mo showed his left foot do kind of a flat footed dance as he came into the ball. Sure, he was trying to hit it hard, and sure he pulled the shot, but I was still shocked by how much weight he obviously gets onto his back side, even with a wedge, and how much of it is obviously still back there late in his motion. 

 

Did anyone else see this?

While it may look like he is pulling his left hip back he is probably pushing off his right side. Look at videos of big hitters and you'll see the left foot moves around quite a lot, or even comes off the ground like Bubba Watson. This demonstrates that the driving force is from the right side and not snapping the hip back because it would have to be firmly planted to do that. The hip action of the Olympic hammer throw is very similar but most of the weight stays on the right side as the left knee could not take that sustained force for any length of time.

He does the same with driver. They did a slowmo and showed it clearly. Longer hitters will move their lead foot off the ground even backwards some. Pressure should be maxed in lead foot somewhere around the top of the backswing and starts pushing away and back after that.

Yep, vertical ground force.   want as much as possible when shaft is vertical in downswing, around p5ish.    Reed is not keeping pressure on the trail foot - he has alot of it in his lead foot and the reaction causes his foot dance.     Do you need it that much to hit it long - not necessarily.      DJ is one example of a long hitter that doesn't have his left foot dancing around - not that he doesn't create good vertical forces just that he doesn't create so much that he has lift off.   Rory too.   Matt Wolff at one time had the highest measured vertical force at something like 2.8 times his body weight - think has been surpassed.

That's his swing. Sort of jumps off the left leg.

Justin Thomas does this as well...especially with his driver when he goes after it.
