Epic Flash SZ vs Epic Speed

Recommended Posts

I just upgraded to the Epic Speed LS from Flash SZ. I made a swing change and the SZ was too low spin for me now. The Max LS was super stable and had the spin right in the 22-2300 range.

Not sure about the standard speed head because I needed that toe weight to help stop the lefts.

I am hearing the AI actually accounts for mishits now to help retain ball speed. Anyone else seeing this? I can get Heal heavy with my EF SZ and then it is game over for me.

I had triple diamond SZ, traded to Epic Speed.  Spin was similar, but ball speed up around 7%.

7% ?!?!?!

Just curious about the spin comparison for the guys that’s had a chance to compare.  Is the Epic Speed a lower spinning head than the Epic Flash Sz?

No. Epic Speed has a higher MOI then SZ. Closest retail head we have to SZ is LS but the spin profile is higher for sure. The goal was to make a “lower spin” head that kept players above 2000 RPM as much as possible. SZ as u may know had that goofy 13 launch 1800 rpm ball in it which is fun at parties but can be vicious in the streets lol.

Epic Speed is NOT lower spin than Flash sz .....however as @JohnnyCallaway said absurdly low spin numbers are a thing of the past.....I have Speed retail and it's providing optimal launch and spin vs generic low spin and inconsistent launch..... unsure about TD heads but Speed retail is a darling!

Now the question is, do I replace my EF SZ with the max ls.

Funny that nobody's mentioned the tweener, the Mavrik.

I have the EFSZ halfway into its 3rd season now and have no desire to even try the Speed series (though I eventually will).

The EFSZ is as point-and-shoot as any driver I've ever had. Easy to launch high or low. I hit the SS far more often but when I don't I still find it very forgiving (YMMV).

Considerable directional improvement over my previous Rapture V2 (though ball speed was pretty even).

I did try the Mavrik once; both regular and SZ. Fully warmed up, over 15 or so swings with each, I couldn't get the spin rate over 1800. Most were in the 14-1600 range. No bueno.

I expect at some point I'll pick up a Speed and give it a try but I don't see where I can pick up anything worthwhile. shrug.gif

I tested the Mav SZ vs the LS on trackman and both gave me around the same ball speed at 172 and spin was just over 2k on both. I do there there was a bit more stability present in the LS but I didn't like the feel as much. It's a bit more.. hollow? I think I'd like it with hotmelt. The Mav SZ is great if you hit middle of the face though. I rarely see smash below 1.49 on trackman and had quite a few at 1.51 the other day with my coach. I think the stability thing is being slightly overstated. The Mav SZ is a forgiving and very playable driver for the right kind of player. If you are a lower spin player it's a no go though.
