Callaway FT Irons

Looks like a lot of offset?

Callaway says the FT irons have a 1/2 offset.

 

 

What is a 1/2 offset? Does anybody have tha exact measurements in inches or mm's. These are not mentioned on the Callaway website.

 

 

So has any one got precise info on the exact OFFSET specs? Callaway site says "slightly less"- but less than what?

They aren't players clubs but they look ok. The topline looks thinner then it is by the design the've used. The offset is a little too much for me but they feel ok. Nothing like puring a forged club but its good. All round pretty good for that player who wants a club that is a little harder to hit then a GI club but not as hard as a player's CB and wants to be able to work the ball a little easier. You'll probably want to get a few more wedgest though

Quick question, do you play with 15 clubs in your bag? I'm not asking to give you a hard time, but trying to figure out which degree hybrid I should get if I buy a set of the FT irons.

 

The FT Irons for the most part are holding up well. I posted another thread in this forum about how the head came off the shaft on the PW, but Cally overnighted a replacement to me. Cally's R&D wanted the broken club ASAP that they even sent a paid return label to overnight the club back to them.

 

I don't play with 15 clubs, I just list them. I switch between a 21 degree FT Hybrid and my FT 3 iron depending on how I'm swinging the club on a given day and what I think I may have to do during the round.

 

I'll tell you that the FT Hybrid is the real deal. It's smaller than most, but long, forgiving and easy to hit. I comes stock with a Fujikura Fit-On Hybrid Shaft.

 

If I get time later, I'll post pics of the FT Fairway and Hybrid.

I am surpised there are not more positive reviews around for these irons. I just picked up a set with nippons and these things are amazing. Sure they are expensive, but they are a lovely shape, good amount of offset, very hot and forgiving and excellent shafts. What more can one want?

Completely agree with you. Admittedly, it took me about 3 rounds to adapt to the Nippon shafts, coming from DG S300s, but now they are just $$$. Funny thing about the price, peeps will talk about Titleist AP2 ($1k retail) like they're just another $500 set of sticks...

 

I couldn't be more pleased, and still have my X-Tours and Hogan FTX for backups, but for now, it's Fusion love

I picked up a set of these on the cheap from a local pro. In Graphite, regular flex. Thinking now that I should have held out for Steel or a stiff flex. I just need to go get fitted, should have before probably but could not pass up the price.

 

Might have a set for sale soon if these are'nt for me. Only have about 3-4 rounds on them so far. Definately different. I just think I might should have gone with something like the wide sole since im only a year into my playing and still a 20 handicapper.

I love mine, got them in like Feb...I can do whatever needs be with these clubs, they're not SGI, maybe GI or slightly less, but forgiving and workable they are.

 

I've shot par or less 5 times since having these, if I could find an FT putter, I'd be elated :-O

 

Anyway, if you can afford them, they are really nice clubs.

I have the 5-PW with Black Gold Stiff shafts and 2 degree upright. I love the irons, however I wish I would have ordered them with standard lie, as I'm drawing EVERY shot... sometimes too much!

 

It is a love hate relationship with me between the FT irons and my Cleveland CG1's... any given day I favor one over the other.

I have 4-pw with the stock Nippon shafts and am very satisfied. They are very nice clubs.

Just wanted to take a stab at aswering a couple of floating questions out there.

 

1/2 offset = 1/2 the diameter of the hosel.

 

I've had these with the Project X Flighted Rifle 6.5 shafts since spring, and boy has my iron play ever improved.

 

I just have 3 things to say:

1. Get fitted.

2. Get fitted.

3. Get fitted.

 

I had origianally learned to play golf with a set of Wilson Deep Red II irons (also a polymer dampining cavity back). Once my game evolved, I got fitted for x-20s. Played them for less than a month, and returned them on playability credit (too much offset, was skying everything). Got fitted for the Fusions with stock Nippon uni-flex's(what the guy had talked me out of the first time). Improved, but had trouble controlling ball flight (a lot of high and rights).

 

Finally went to another fitter, and the first words out of his mouth was "too weak." Not me, the shafts. So after he clocked my 6 iron at 96mph, I went to Royal Precision's website, and determined that I needed their 6.5s. Was going to reshaft, but Callaway anounced the FTs, and as they say the rest is history.

 

I consider this to be a forgiving players iron with the right shafts. I can control the trajectory and the left and right now. Plus the extra "umph" for the titanium face allows me to flirt with pro distances. I'll keep these in the bag for a while. At least as long as my handicap keeps droping.

I know the order before these irons was Hawkeye, Hawkeye VFT, Fusion, and then FT. 

 

What came after the FT in this same family of irons and whats comparable today 2021?

Best I can tell the FT irons in 2008 were the last of that generation from the Hawkeyes.
