SC300i

Recommended Posts

Anyone found this unit to work well with higher swing speeds? (115-120mph).

Seems to be one of the better units for iron carry accuracy and like the ability to input the correct lofts and have it calibrate for atmospheric conditions to a degree but would also want to use it with driver (which seems to be the pain point) for swing and ball speed. Would the metallic dots help?

How much experience with this device (sc300i) do people have indoors hitting into a net? Any ideal setup situations I should strive for? Mainly looking to dial in yardages under 150yds.

Experience here with the previous model (sc300) comparing it to GCquad at my local fitter about a year ago with a 6 iron.  Pretty spot on accurate w/ carry distances.  Swing speeds, ball speeds, and spin I didn't really look at however.  I will compare those next time I get fitted next month for driver and fairway wood

Good to hear. Wedge and partial shot distances is really what I want this unit for.

I think I finally (FINALLY!) have the driver misses figured out. The device has to be precisely 5 feet behind the ball. Not 6 or 7, but 5. The logo needs to be directly behind the ball and the device needs to be sitting at mat-height.

I was keeping the device 6 or 7 feet behind the ball, thinking that the requirement was "at least 5 feet." It is not. Once I measured it and moved the device up--and kept it directly behind the ball and at mat height--it caught almost every driver. It went from missing 8 out of 10 to perhaps 1 out of 10.

I thought the problem was either clubhead size, launch angle, or both. But no, it was ball speed. Driver shots go out of range before the device can read them. That's my latest theory based on current observations.

How much ball flight are you getting? Mine is having issues with giving me short readings. Haven't tried it with my heater on outside yet so I also wonder about cold temps affecting it. I think its more about distance however. I am talking about all clubs. I won't be able to use it outside for some time up here in NY.

I'm hitting in 75-degree weather.

I don't know how much cold weather would affect it. If you're hitting range balls, I would suspect a lot since they're exposed to sustained cold. But if you're hitting your own--into a net, I would presume--then you can keep them warm enough that they'll react. The device doesn't need much ahead of the shot in order to get a reading.

I use a mix--about 1 real ball for every 10 range balls. The real balls are about a half-club longer. But again, I'm in normal weather conditions.

Ultimately, it will be the balls' internal temperatures, not the ambient air, that will determine distance readings.

Followed up today with the same results, so I think this was it. 5 feet (exactly) behind the ball with the logo lined up on the ball. It failed to read just a couple of the 30-or-so drives I hit.

I just picked one up. Looked new when I opened it. Took it to the range today. Picked up every swing and distances pretty dead on with their top tracer. Seller gstsolution

Me too.  $360ish for refurb fit my wallet.  Used it the first time today and, as expected, my swing speed is down by 10+ mph explaining my loss of distance.  Gonna work the core strength and do some speed increase training.

I’d buy it again, no question.

I bought a refurb on eBay for the same price. Looked brand new and came with a complimentary hard case. Really loving everything about it, even the app. I have only used it at the outdoor range. I verified the distances of some of the shots with both my rangefinder at Google Maps and they look good.

How accurate is the calculation of  swing speed? This has been the only radar I've ever been on, seems like a great unit for the price!

Not real concerned about to the mph, but consistent readings of swings.  If the ball’s going 280, the swing has some speed.  This it does well.

Thank you Rich for your testing with the Driver and this device.  I got mine from the same refurb ebay site that is mentioned above.  Mine looked practically brand new.  I am going to try the perfect setup that you have explained for driver as I too was having a similar missed reading.  Especially on the occasional pull one that I caught low on my driver and the launch was lower- hence blocking the reading with my clubhead.

I also got a bit lower reading with range balls as well but the consistency of this at the price- I cant beat.  If I hit one bad- it reads it as not as good as a flush shot.

I however do use the app and I like the data I am collecting.  I am in the process of using a new driver and testing shafts and trying to see which one is optimizing length and launch angles and such.  I plot left and right shot patterns myself.  Has helped me narrow down my decision.

The only metric mine misses frequently is launch angle. I was hitting off a driving range mat and placed the unit on top of the case it came with to make sure it was at the right height. I also measured out exactly five feet. It said moving it slightly farther back might help so I'll try that when I go back to the range today. I also plan to hit off the grass today to see if that changes anything.

I'd say it misses my swing about 1 out of every 10 swings. And it misses the launch angle 2-3 times out of 10. Not bad, I'm very happy with it and will tweak my setup a bit to see if I can make it even more reliable.

I picked up a SC300i on sale a week or so ago. I have used it with my hitting net outside and in side where its a little tight for space. It worked great ! I also used it at the Golf Dome yesterday and the numbers were pretty much what I expected. I find the set up is easy and it hardly misses any shots. So far, the app is working great. I like reviewing the data.On a poor strike, I know it and the SC300i confirms it! So, for the money I'm very pleased so far. Hopefully next week i can get it on an outside range for a session!

Has anyone else seen weird results when they graph their data in the app? I've noticed some discrepancies between the graphical view and the raw data. The example below shows there was a day when I hit nearly 120mph clubhead speed which is not only impossible for me, but nothing even close to that shows up in the raw data table. Also, the best value shows as 98.5 but the data shows multiple instances of slightly higher speeds. My first instinct is that the trend line is probably right but the scale is way off, but then the "best" value threw me for a loop.

SC300i.  Had it to the range today to get baseline on my new Mizuno 223s.  Overall, they work much better for me than the T100s’ did.

Thanks for that link.  Looks like they have refurbs on ebay for a lot of their products.   The refurb SC300 is $300 and SC300i is $360.  A new SC300i is only $90 more.  $90 might be worth it for me being up in Canada and the possibility of not being able to do a return on a refurb.  Will need to make a decision soon so I have time to use it and get ready for course openings.

I can't buy it from ebay myself as they won't ship to Canada.  I can't even load it in my shopping cart.  But I can get my brother who lives in Tampa to do it.  Do you know if shipping in the US is included or was it extra?
