I'm really surprised we don't see more face milling variations from these tour putters.

I'm not sure how many pros are club hoes unlike us so they just probably go "yeah this feels good" and go with that. Meanwhile I'm making sure my milling doesn't match on more than 2 putters lol.

I think it's just there to ensure the face is flat, unless it's pretty deep it's not doing much for performance or feel.

Face milling is almost entirely to do with sound and feel. You're reducing the amount of material interacting with the ball which has a pretty significant impact on feel.

Deeper, wider spaced milling will have far less ball interaction and feel much softer than tighter, shallower milling than flat etc.

I think the pros are more club hoes than we are.  If you've read anything about the tour van guys, they talk about the specific specs each pro requires for club making.  It's kinda crazy.  If I were a pro, I'd request multiple putters with tiny variations in head weight and face milling.  Maybe different shafts too.

It honestly depends on the guy. Yes some are OCD like getting their putter loft and lie checked every week to the point they wear out the neck from bending over time. Then there are some guys that just go "I play it cause it works for me, can't say much else about it".

I'd be the same, if I was on tour my putter collection would put Hideki to shame.

I don't think the milling on these is doing much more than ensuring a flat surface area, you have to go into Evenroll, PING (was it TR?) style grooves to affect performance, it will affect sound like you said, but this isn't tech like the two I mentioned.

Our putter collections would be Ian Poulter's, haha!

Actually in terms of Scotty collection Hideki has the largest collection according to Scotty himself. He will buy putters sight unseen from Scotty or get first dibs on them.

really?!  That's crazy.  Does he actually buy them from scotty or does he get them free?

Not 100% sure but on a Fully Equipped podcast like a month ago they mentioned Hideki has the largest collection and it was Scotty who told them. Whatever their deal is that's between them but he still has the largest.

Scotty's saying the same thing as us "A new milled face for precision and good looks.", although I'd argue the balls used with his putters have got harder over the years, folks weren't rolling Wilson Ultra balls with his wands too often, they were gaming Tour Balatas and Professionals and they were a bit softer than Pro V1s.
